The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program is the fastest path to a career in nursing for students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field. Best Accelerated Nursing Programs
The College of Nursing reserves the right to require students to retake the exam. The College of Nursing also decides whether an English proficiency test is required for applicants graduating from a US university or another accredited country.
Any coursework completed at an accredited institution outside the United States must be evaluated by a NACES-approved certification agency for each course. Official grades should be sent directly to the university from the agency.
Optional Practical Training (OPT) allows international students to obtain permanent employment in their field of study after completing a degree program. If eligible, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) may grant F1 visa holders up to 12 months of OPT for each higher degree level.
Many students entering accelerated nursing programs have already used the 12-month OPT program toward their bachelor’s degree. This means they will not be eligible for another OPT option after completing the accelerated care program. Even if it is a completely different area of study. To make your university education more accessible, we encourage you to apply for financial aid with the FAFSA. We also encourage you to apply for available scholarships.
But throughout your program, you must submit two FAFSA applications and accept financial aid offers twice. FAFSAs for the coming year open in October. If necessary, you can also complete the private/alternative loan applications described below.
Accelerated Bachelor’s Of Science In Nursing
Federal nurse loans have a fixed interest rate of 5% with no loan origination fee. Interest on federal nursing loans does not accrue while you are in school or during the nine-month grace period before repayment.
This is a second undergraduate program, so you are still an undergraduate student. This means that you may qualify for federal loans depending on your FAFSA eligibility, but you will not qualify for any federal grants. Many of our students choose private loans in addition to federal loan options.
There are no institutional grants or scholarships for incoming acute care students. As participation in the program continues, limited scholarships may be available.

Graduates who earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University College of Nursing are eligible to take the National Council-RN Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN). All 50 US states and territories require an applicant to take the NCLEX-RN before practicing as an RN.
