As a starting point, put yourself in your subscribers’ shoes. Think about their daily routines, habits and way of thinking. You may not have all the data yet, but you probably know your target audience well. When are they most likely to opt-in to your email campaigns?
Monday is the most popular day to send emails to marketers. It’s a fair assumption that people are busy adjusting to the work week. Business emails will inevitably take precedence over promotional emails. Many people say Mondays are the worst times to send a newsletter because of its importance in driving business (although our 2022 data suggests it can still generate surprisingly high open rates). 🤷
Most email marketers believe that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are good days. By mid-week, your email subscribers have settled into their work routine and are regularly checking their inboxes.
On Friday, everyone daydreams about the weekend and rushes to finish work so they can go offline. However, we’ve found that Friday lunchtime is a good time to send an email. After that, people tend to relax on the weekend and are less likely to start new tasks, leaving them with more time to check their inbox.

It’s tricky. Although there are always exceptions, some cultures such as France and Italy rarely check their mailboxes outside of business hours. But in other cultures, such as America, Sunday evening is a better time because Americans prepare for the work week the night before.
Also, people usually get fewer emails on the weekend, so it’s easier to get their attention. As a rule of thumb, it’s best to test different send times to your target audience to find out what produces the highest open and click rates.

We love crunching numbers and are big believers in analyzing data from a human perspective. We’ve reviewed over 2.5 million campaigns and find insights paired with our own real-world experience to see if, in fact, there’s an optimal window to send.
What is the best day of the week to send an email? Let’s compare these two graphs showing email send rates and open rates throughout the week.
Then! Data shows that most newsletters are usually sent on weekdays. Wednesday and Thursday are the most popular days for email advertisers to send their campaigns, while Saturday and Sunday are the least popular (awww, bless them 💔).
Takes first place. But remember that fewer emails are sent on Sundays, and not all open rates are created equal. Some people open their weekly emails in the evening, Monday morning or later in the week.
What Is Email Marketing?
If you want to send time-sensitive newsletters, consider average open rates in the first 2 hours of sending.
The most favorable options are Thursday (15.21% open in first 2 hours) and Monday (15.17% open in first 2 hours).
Take the opportunity to stand out from the crowd. However, Saturday is also a bad day for open rates, and email marketers generally agree that weekends are the worst time to send a campaign – so here’s yours! It could be a gold mine or a tough dog.
Let’s look at each weekday to get an idea of which times have the highest open rates. Overall, most openings take place between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm (based on subscriber’s time zone).
What’s The Best Day For Email Marketing Campaigns?
Many industry experts have hailed this as prime time to send, as your subscribers may have settled into their day-to-day and are not too focused on their day-to-day tasks to ignore their inbox. There is a small peak around 17:00-19:00, and surprisingly, a significant spike opens between 1:00-2:00.
According to the data, the peak time people open their emails on Mondays is 11am – and there’s also a nice little boost at 6pm. In the afternoon, open rates will drop slightly, perhaps as people shake off the “Monday blues” and resume their work duties.
On Tuesdays, email peaks at 12:00 p.m., although there are peaks at 1:00-2:00 a.m. and 7:00-8:00 a.m. (perhaps when everyone is up or on their morning commute). It descends at 9 am and returns to its peak in the afternoon. From there they are pretty steady before dropping off around 7pm.
12:00 Gold medal again! Wednesday’s open rates follow a very similar pattern to Tuesday’s, except that open rates begin to decline from 2 p.m. When people focus on completing their daily tasks, they can relax throughout the week.
The Best Time To Send Marketing Emails
Again, 12pm is still the best time for open rates, with another spike at 2pm and the morning spike from 7am to 8am. Interestingly, the openings are very consistent throughout the day and don’t budge until around 9:00pm. This may be because people have finished most of their weekly tasks and are not starting any new big projects by the end of the week, so they have more time to check their email.
Fares are consistently higher on Fridays open from 10am to 12pm, with another early morning spike around 8am. The openings will start from 2 pm. However, this can be an interesting day to send a newsletter because you catch them before they leave for the weekend, when they’re making a purchase or trying a new experience.
Open rate patterns on Saturdays are similar to weekdays, with a spike at 7 a.m. and a peak at 11 a.m., then a gradual decline throughout the afternoon as people move in to enjoy the weekend.
The form closes on Sunday. The afternoon bump is still there, but instead of a steady decline throughout the rest of the day, there is an increase in Sunday night openings. Maybe when people are getting ready for the next workday. This is an interesting opportunity for email marketers as traffic is less on Sundays.
Sizzling Email Marketing Stats (2017)
Our data shows that while open rates are consistent across all weekdays, Mondays and Thursdays lead the way. But no matter what day you choose to send your newsletter, 11:00-12:00 seems like a good time to send for the highest open rates.
These statistics show that 9:00 pm to 7:00 am is the worst time to send an email, and subscribers tend to sleep in the evening and rush to get ready for the new day.
But what about those 2am jumps? Isn’t this the wrong time to send an email? Clearly, midnight emails aren’t as big a mistake as email marketers once thought. Well, we turned to our Georgia email marketing expert for answers.
Late night emails can be hit or miss. It’s one of those things you need to test to see if it works with your audience. Tons of subscribers might check their email at 2am, but that doesn’t mean they’ll click or engage with your content at that time. I recommend testing the time you send to analyze engagement. This is the only way you will know how your audience will respond to late night emails.
