For five years in a row, no school has done better than the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. P&Q has included undergraduate business schools for six years, and in the last five years The Wharton School has risen to the top of our proprietary rankings, which include surveys of schools and alumni. Primary reason? Wharton has consistently topped the admissions and employment results categories while holding its own in the area of alumni experience to outperform all other schools.
The Wharton School isn’t the only B school that does a lot of things right, to be sure. Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business jumped three places from fifth place last year to second place this year to earn the top spot in our ranking. Like Wharton, Georgetown’s undergraduate business program has a very balanced approach, ranking fourth in admissions, second in career results, and first in the alumni experience category.
And for the first time, the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business submitted a school survey and met the minimum alumni survey response rate of 10%, debuting at No. 3. USC ranked 2nd in the admissions category, 8th in alumni experience, and 11th in career results. Following USC, at No. 4, is Washington University in St. Louis. Rounding out the top five is the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Business, which dropped a few spots to No. 5. Other than Wharton, UVA has been the most consistent school in the top five in the six-year history of our rankings. McIntire scored very consistently across all categories, placing 6th in admissions and 7th in both career results and alumni experience.
Ranking sixth this year is the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, which is down two places from fourth last year.
