To get the data, ZenBusiness analyzed searches from Ahrefs, specifically looking for the term “start a business” and its equivalent in local languages from February 2022.
They then found the topics or keywords associated with the highest search volume, and selected the results in 11 different industries:
The data shows that the industry entrepreneurs are most attracted to varies from country to country, depending on various factors such as infrastructure, business climate and culture.
From cooking gas refills in South Africa to food supplements in The Gambia, entrepreneurs across Africa seem to be interested in starting a variety of businesses (at least according to their searches ).

But while the results vary between regions, the most sought-after industries are personal services such as cleaning, interior design and contracting. The cleanup was very popular, ranking first in six different African countries.
An African country worth highlighting is Morocco, where transport is the most searched startup term across the country. This makes sense considering that Morocco is home to several major ports, including Tanger Med Port, which is the largest port in Africa by cargo capacity.
In Europe, real estate is the most sought after industry, ranking first in seven different countries across the continent. Over the past decade, the European Union’s real estate market has grown rapidly—between 2010 and 2021, house prices in the EU increased by 42%.
Retail is also a popular industry across Europe, with clothing-related searches taking first place in five different European countries.

From soap making in Uzbekistan to dropshipping in Azerbaijan, the Middle East and Central Asia has the most diverse searches of any region.
One particularly interesting finding is in the United Arab Emirates, where imports and exports rank first. The UAE economy is heavily dependent on trade, especially oil, which makes up 30% of the region’s GDP and 41% of public revenue.
Asia and Oceania have an interesting mix of unique business quests. For example, pig farming ranks first in the Solomon Islands, and vegetable planting ranks first in New Zealand.
But in general, retail is one of the most sought-after types of business across the region, with clothing taking first place in countries such as Australia, Indonesia and Singapore.
Lucrative Businesses In Nigeria That Anyone Can Start
Across North America, retail has taken first place for the most sought-after type of business. In fact, the top searches in almost half of the region’s countries are related to the retail or e-commerce industry.
U.S. it currently has the largest retail market in the world, although China is close behind. In 2021, the US retail market will be worth more than $6.5 trillion US dollars.
Food is the top search industry across South America, ranking number one in half of the countries across the region. In Brazil, candy ranks first, which is perhaps not surprising considering that the country is the highest producer of sugarcane worldwide.

The United States has the largest GDP in the world in nominal terms, and urban areas are a major contributor to the country’s economic health. In fact, metropolitan areas account for approximately 90% of the economic output of the United States.
In this visual, we have listed the economic output of the top 15 US cities. from New York City to Minneapolis, using data from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis. The data covers 2021, which is the latest release from the BEA.

It is important to note that the data takes into account the entire surrounding metropolitan area, so for example, New York City includes nearby population centers such as Newark, NJ, as well as Jersey City—achieving the A GDP of nearly $2 trillion.
Measuring a city’s economy at the metro level can provide a more accurate picture of its economic activity. This is because the metropolitan area includes not only the city center but also the surrounding suburbs and rural areas that have economic links with it.
There are some clear winners when it comes to US cities. larger than GDP, including NYC, Los Angeles, Dallas and San Francisco.
In the table below, we’ve listed each of the 384 metropolitan areas from the dataset down to the last place, Sebring-Avon Park, Florida, along with their respective rank and GDP:
Easy Businesses To Start
As the graph above clearly shows, NYC’s GDP is higher than the rest. The Big Apple is the nerve center for many high-impact industries, including finance and media.
Moving down the rankings, LA has an economy of $1.1 trillion, followed by Chicago, with a GDP of more than $760 billion.
While many of the top ranked cities are not surprising, there are a few that come up short on the list. A report from the Kenan Institute, at the University of North Carolina School of Business, reveals the fastest growing cities in the United States. in terms of year-on-year GDP growth. Here are the top 10:
San Francisco, Seattle and Dallas appear on both the overall GDP size and growth lists. Dallas’ economy is largely driven by the growing healthcare industry. The city also continues to attract talent as home to major corporations AT&T, CBRE Group and Texas Instruments.
