Cmhc Program Overview

A master’s degree in clinical mental health offers many opportunities for professional growth. In addition to the important work of helping individuals, mental health experts can also help groups of people through research and legislative policy.

To be admitted to the program, applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in undergraduate courses.

Formal admission to the program is required before enrolling in classes. Approval may be given to the Program Director to transfer up to 12 semester hours of credits earned in a CACREP accredited program. Permission from the Program Director may be given to students to transfer up to six semester hours of credits earned at a non-CACREP accredited institution, subject to the College’s credit transfer policy.

International applicants must prove they have passed the TOEFL of 95 and/or 7.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Examination subscores are also considered important to the candidate’s overall qualification. A written sample of 500 words in English and proof of successful completion of an English-taught undergraduate course in the United States or Canada are required.

M.ed. In Counseling

Undergraduate psychology majors with excellent academic records may be considered for early admission into the clinical mental health graduate program through the accelerated bachelor’s/master’s program. (Other relevant majors may also be considered for admission.) Students who choose the Bridge program will have a senior UG advisor and a secondary graduate advisor from their first year.

High school students accepted into the accelerated BA/MA Bridge program in the pre-professional phase (first 3 years) may be eligible for early admission into the Mental Health Clinical Counseling Graduate Program and Candidate status. Upon successful completion of the bachelor’s program at the end of the spring semester of the fourth year, students are officially admitted to the master’s program as a graduate student.

All pre-pro students must be approved through an interview process with CMHC faculty in the fall of their freshman year to begin enrollment in freshman CMHC courses during the course of senior year. Students would be provisionally accepted into the CMHC program at that point, pending satisfactory academic performance and graduation with at least a 3.0 GPA. Students would be limited to 12 credits in the fall of their senior year of master’s level coursework. Masters level courses would be used to meet both bachelor’s degree requirements and master’s degree requirements. Upon successful completion of the bachelor’s degree program at the end of the fourth-year fall semester, students are officially admitted to the master’s program in the spring semester as a graduate student.

Undergraduate psychology majors with excellent academic records may qualify for early admission into the graduate program in clinical mental health through the accelerated master’s program. Students interested in the psychology counseling major must commit to this program no later than the beginning of their first year of college studies, meet the application deadline indicated in the College’s catalog of courses, and meet criteria-specific admissions. We only accept applications for the fall semester.

Psychology – counseling track majors can enroll in the program at the beginning of their freshman year if they have a GPA of at least 3.4 after 56 semester hours.

In addition to achieving the minimum cumulative grade point average, each candidate participates in an interview and is assessed against the aptitude to practice developed by the advisory service.

Upon successful completion of the bachelor’s degree program at the end of the fourth-year spring semester, students would be formally admitted to the master’s program as graduate students.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program Specialization Annual Evaluation Report

All pre-professional stage students must be approved through an interview process with CMHC faculty in the fall of their freshman year to begin registering for CMHC’s first year of faculty in the fall of their freshman year to begin enrolling in CMH courses from freshman to senior year. Students would be provisionally accepted into the CMCH program at that point, pending satisfactory academic performance and graduation with at least a 3.0 GPA. Students would be limited to 12 credits during the fall and spring semesters of their senior year of master’s level coursework. The master’s level coursework would be used to meet the requirements for a bachelor’s degree. At the end of the spring semester of the fourth year, students would be officially admitted to the master’s program as graduate students.
