Fashion Merchandising students have the opportunity to work on fashion projects with major brands and retailers such as Boscov’s and Nordstrom, and to intern at major companies such as Rag & Bone, Anthropologie, and South Moon Under. They also study abroad in England, Ireland and Italy and attend clothing and accessories fairs such as Magic Market Week and Coterie.

The Fashion Design and Merchandising major offers an accelerated program to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in less time. Students in the accelerated program take graduate courses and earn undergraduate and graduate credit concurrently. Students must consult with a potential graduate advisor to ensure that graduate credits are applied to the graduate curriculum. Applications for these programs are made in the junior year (ie, after completing 60 or more hours of undergraduate courses).

The Retail Certificate offered in the Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM) program complements the existing B.S. degrees, giving students in any program a formal and cohesive grouping to take retail-related courses. The purpose of the Retail Certificate is to introduce current students to the dynamics of retail and provide them with some of the tools and training to succeed in this fast-growing industry. Students may transfer from Mississippi State University regionally accredited community, junior, or senior colleges for any term of enrollment provided they have earned a GPA of 2.0 (calculated by Mississippi State University) in all college courses attempted and that they have earned GPA 2.0 within. 30 hours of basic courses.
