Colleges That Offer Chemical Engineering – Chemical engineering is a deceptively broad field. It is a branch of engineering that deals with the production and manufacture of chemicals. However, this can be applied in the medical field, making explosives, textiles, food, cleaning products and more. This type of work usually requires at least a bachelor’s degree, and there are obviously additional opportunities for those who continue to study at graduate levels. Some employers may also require additional state certification as a professional engineer.
Another thing about the chemical engineering field is that continuing education is incredibly important to keep up with the new developments that are always being made. Whether you’re just starting out or one of those professionals looking to expand your education, an online chemical engineering program is a great choice for you. These programs are just as comprehensive as their traditional counterparts, but they won’t force you to interrupt your career and family life to fit in school.
Colleges That Offer Chemical Engineering
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that between 2012 and 2022 there will be only 4% employment growth in this sector. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t many opportunities, it just means that the better prepared you are to face the new challenges that come your way, the more likely you are to land the job. With a typical starting salary of over $65,000 and fairly secure job security due to the integral role chemical engineers play in our daily lives, this is still an excellent career choice. There are also many opportunities to get the training you need to start this career from the comfort of your own home. Online chemical engineering degrees cover many different areas within the field, and you can choose from a variety of reputable schools and programs. The top 20 schools that offer online degrees in chemical engineering are ranked below, based on the following:

All different types of chemical engineering programs were considered in creating this article. All schools were rated out of 200 possible points. We rank all US schools that offer fully online or hybrid chemical engineering degree programs based on the following:
These two percentages were added together to get each institution’s final score and then ranked out of 20 based on that score.
We use school websites to collect the information we use whenever possible. In any case where a school did not have the information we needed on its website, the databases of both
In any case where two or more schools tied for a spot in this Top 20, the alphabetical order of their names was used to break the tie. We chose the two ranking criteria, freshman retention and graduation rate, because when considered together, they are excellent indicators of a school’s overall quality. However, due to incomplete data, some schools may not be represented here.

The University of North Dakota is a public space grant research university in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It was founded in 1883, several years before North Dakota became a state. Classes started just one year later. The university began to expand but was devastated by the influenza epidemic of 1918, then closed so that the school could be used as a military base during the war. Things didn’t really start to grow and pick up for the institution from there until after World War II, when enrollment finally topped 3,000. Today, however, there are a total of 14,648 students. The university is now accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. UND consists of ten different colleges and schools and offers 224 different degree programs. UND also offers an interdisciplinary program that allows students to virtually create their own field of study if they so desire.
The University of North Dakota’s online chemical engineering degree is a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. The program is specifically designed to be flexible and not get in the way of your busy lifestyle while you continue your education. The only time students will need to travel to campus is during the summer semester for labs, which only last two weeks. The program consists of 133 credits and typically takes six years or more to complete, but you may be able to complete it sooner because UND will waive some course requirements if you can demonstrate adequate knowledge and experience. There are three start dates throughout the year, summer, fall and spring semesters. Courses run per semester but are asynchronous. You will be able to log in at any time of the day to complete your homework or watch pre-recorded lectures.
