Forensic Science Degree Programs
The Forensic Science major will provide students with the knowledge they need to pursue an entry-level degree in a forensic science laboratory or graduate school in one of the many areas of forensic science. This major is multidisciplinary, and the combination of chemistry and biology gives students the depth and breadth needed to build a solid scientific foundation for their case studies.
Our faculty are excellent researchers, but your success is paramount. Unlike large research institutions, Saint Rose is a place where teachers invest in their students, empowering them to teach, provide effective teaching and excellent learning outcomes.
My research interests span the fields of analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, food chemistry, and forensic chemistry. When I work with students in my research, I like to find out what interests them and together we design an actionable research experience around that interest. My students regularly present research posters at the St. Rose Undergraduate Research Symposium, and some students present posters at the local American Chemical Society Undergraduate Research Symposium and Sigma Si induction ceremony.
My research interests include computational and theoretical chemistry. I use molecular dynamics simulations to study the properties of various aqueous solutions and interfaces at the atomic/molecular level. I have published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and presented at national and regional American Chemical Society conferences.

I like to involve highly motivated students in my research projects. These students presented their findings at the Undergraduate Research Symposium at the College of St. Rose, as well as at meetings of the New York Eastern Chapter of the American Chemical Society and the Albany Chapter of Sigma Xi.
My research has focused on plant physiology and ecology, with an emphasis on terrestrial woody plants. More broadly, I am interested in the conservation of woody plant species, particularly in developing a better understanding of difficult species complexes such as old-growth, oak, willow, hemlock, and hemlock.
I received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Clark University, where I was first introduced to academic research under the guidance of enthusiastic and supportive mentors. This experience made me want a career where I could teach and mentor students. After working as a technician in a cancer biology lab for several years, I attended graduate school at UMass Medical School and received my Ph.D. in biomedical sciences.
As a result of my past experiences, I am interested in the ways in which environmental changes affect the growth and physiology of microbes. I have taught and taught graduate and undergraduate students and found that research and teaching work best when combined. I am also passionate about developing science and communicating in the community and finding ways to incorporate science communication skills into the classroom.
Forensic Chemistry Major
My education is diverse. I am currently interested in how organisms cope with environmental stressors. I have worked in laboratories focusing on teleost reproduction and development, adipogenesis in a mammalian cell line, and ischemia-reperfusion in the mammalian lung. Students in my lab are currently determining the physiological effects of the toxin carbaryl on zebrafish development.
In the first and second semesters, I teach organic chemistry, a lecture and laboratory course, and an advanced laboratory course in organic chemistry. In addition to organic chemistry offerings, I also teach medicinal chemistry. I involve my students in research involving the synthesis of heterocyclic organic molecules via metal-catalyzed oxidative C-H amination.
Two Saint Rose students received summer research grants to work on these projects. My student researchers also presented their work at the Undergraduate Research Symposium at the College of St. Rose, the annual meeting of the Albany Chapter of Sigma Si, and the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium hosted by the Eastern New York Chapter. American Chemical Society.
My research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of the pre-rebellious system. This important system is found in the brainstem and works to regulate balance, posture and motor control by relaying information from the central nervous system to the cerebellum. I am also focusing on understanding how exposure to teratogens such as alcohol during pregnancy affects the development of pre-pubertal neurons.
Our Lady Of Fatima University
I have gained leadership experience in my 23-year career as an officer in the US Army Field Artillery, from lieutenant to colonel. As an Army physicist, I worked at the Military Research Laboratory designing and testing leaf- and ground-penetrating radar.
I have participated in several workshops on innovative methods to improve student performance and understanding in undergraduate physics courses, including student instruction, workshop physics, and studio physics. I use physics education research to inform my classroom presentations and am open to working on any physics problem a student would like to investigate.
My teaching interests include genetics, cell biology, principles of biology, human genetics, and my research includes antibiotic resistance in our environment, human traits influenced by androgen sensitivity, and HIV resistance in humans.
The excellent classes and availability of teachers and their honest feedback gave me the support and confidence to continue my career. “
