The AAS program provides an essential foundation in computer-aided design, drafting, quilting, modeling, construction, sewing and textile techniques. After earning your AAS, you can apply for a BFA in Fashion Design. You are also eligible to apply to BFA programs in Fabric Design, Textile/Surface Design, and Toy Design, along with graduate programs in Production Management: Fashion and Allied Industries, Technical Design and Textile Development, and Marketing.

The BFA program offers concentrations in children’s apparel, intimate apparel, knitwear, special occasion, and sportswear. Ma Fashion Design Management
Students have interned at Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Josie Natori, J. Mendel, Michael Kors and Victoria’s Secret. Graduates have worked for Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Polo Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani. They can work as assistants or technical designers or chief fashion designers for some of the biggest and most influential design companies in the world. Other graduates also run boutiques or launch their own lines. You can also choose to pursue an advanced degree, such as an MFA in Fashion Design at FIT.

Skočir is a professor at the Department of Fashion Design at FIT. He has over 25 years of experience in the fashion industry as a design director and knitwear designer. His work with AlgiKnit won the first National BioDesign Challenge Summit (2016), the National Geographic Chasing Genius Award-Sustainable Planet (2017) and the Postcode Lottery Challenge for Green Start-Ups (2018).
A multidisciplinary fashion designer focused on innovative technical approaches and design thinking, Sperber strives to create sustainable systems and creative solutions in clothing. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fashion design from FIT and teaches the undergraduate course in fashion design.

West Valley Community College (WVCC), with multiple campus locations in California, offers a variety of diverse and innovative opportunities for study. At WVCC, teachers strive to teach students the various techniques and skills needed to succeed in the professional fashion industry. The classes serve to help students upgrade their current skills and learn the basics of fashion. Upon completion of the required courses, students can earn an Associate’s Degree in Fashion Design, a Certificate in Apparel Manufacturing, or even an Associate’s Degree in Apparel Production.

Highlighting WVCC’s uniqueness, students enrolled in various fashion programs receive cutting-edge computer training for careers in apparel design and manufacturing. WVCC’s computer labs allow students to gain hands-on experience with computers, systems and networks used in “real world” industries. Nassau Community College (NCC), located in Garden City, New York, also offers unique fashion studies courses. At NCC, students can complete an Associate of Applied Science degree in fashion design. Students are provided with courses that teach computer design skills, pattern making, garment construction and additional practicals. All courses are taught by experienced fashion experts using equipment relevant to the current fashion industry. Practicing their skills, participants learn how to accurately translate their fashion sketches and ideas into realistic, wearable clothing. After completing the program, students can also transfer and continue their studies to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Science degree at participating universities.

Mint College — Fashion Management And Design
For students interested in other forms of fashion, NCC also offers a Diploma in Fashion Buying and Merchandising. Along with this focus, students learn about the importance of shopping, textiles, advertising, fashion coordination techniques, and even advertising. Students in this focus area have the opportunity to participate in internships and cooperative work experience, giving all NCC students hands-on experience and in-depth training. After graduation, students with a degree in this field can apply for a job in design salons, fashion publications, fashion companies and manufacturers, retail stores or even resident purchasing offices.
Similar to Nassau and West Valley, Pima Community College (PCC), located in Tucson, Arizona, also offers various courses of study related to fashion. Along with researching fashion and clothing design, students can take courses in construction, alterations, tailoring, alterations and even fashion design.
Ultimately, all required courses in this academic major prepare students to earn an Associate of Applied Arts degree. After graduation, students can immediately enter a career in the fashion industry or transfer to continue their studies at a four-year university. If students decide to seek immediate employment, the PCC states that graduates can seek entry-level positions with clothing manufacturers, tailors or specialty clothing stores.
