Digital Marketing Tools For Small Businesses – Long gone are the days when you needed to be a large company with lots of resources to run effective marketing campaigns. Nowadays, there are plenty of free and/or cheap digital marketing tools that you can use to create a successful marketing strategy.

When I go to speak at conferences, entrepreneurs often approach me and ask what digital marketing tools I recommend they use. Due to popular demand, I decided to create a comprehensive list of free and inexpensive digital marketing tools for small business owners. These are the tools I’ve used myself and are perfect for entrepreneurs and small business owners looking to create powerful marketing campaigns on a budget:

WordPress is a powerful content management system that powers over 34% of all websites. Website Builder makes it possible for common people with no programming skills to create healthy websites. And the best part? It’s free! You only need to buy a domain name and web hosting to set it up, but you can also use a WordPress domain for free as long as you buy a domain. Choose from thousands of free themes and plugins to customize and manage your site.

I recommend WordPress because of its flexibility and ease of use. However, there are many website builders that allow you to create beautiful websites. The first is Wix, which has drag-and-drop features that make it easy to use. Squarespace and Weebly have intuitive design and beautiful templates. While these builders are easy to set up, their lack of customization can cause trouble down the road, which is why I recommend WordPress.

A consistent social media strategy will help you gain new followers and keep your existing followers engaged. Instead of posting everything manually, social media scheduling tools allow you to plan, schedule, and publish posts to all your accounts, all in one tool!

The leading social media planning tools are Hootsuite and Buffer. Each of them has a free version; Buffer allows up to 3 accounts and 100 scheduled messages in their free plan, and Hootsuite allows 3 accounts and 30 scheduled messages. If you want to add more accounts or reach the issue limit, you can get one of their payment plans. But if you’re just starting out, using a free account to post on your major social platforms is all you need to start your social media presence.

You no longer need to be a graphic designer to create beautiful images. Canva is a free graphic design tool that you can use to create social media graphics, logos, flyers, and more. The platform is very intuitive and easy to use, and you can take pre-made templates and create your own. People retain 55% more information when paired with a relevant image than without visuals. Using Canva to create eye-catching visuals is a great way to stay engaged with your audience.

You’ve paid iStock or Shutterstock to get high-quality, royalty-free images. Now, there are many websites where you can find beautiful copyright free photos for free.

One of my favorites to use is Unsplash. Search for the type of photo you’re looking for, such as “smiling people,” and the search engine will pull up dozens of professional photographer-submitted photos that you can download. Unsplash also offers the option to create “collections” for your photos, so you can categorize them and find them later.

Pexels and Pixabay are some other photo libraries. Pixabay is unique in providing photos and illustrations. I use all three photo libraries because each has its own unique set of photos.

Ever need to hire a freelancer for a quick project like logo creation or video editing? Fiverr is a great outsourcing platform for short-term projects or “gigs” that require specialized expertise.

How To Do Social Media Marketing For Small Business

Fiverr has freelancers who can help you with everything from data entry to website development. You can post a request for a project that vendors want to apply for, or browse vendors and their past work and send them directly.

Fiverr’s prices are cheap (some jobs start at $5) because there are so many freelancers competing for gigs.

Fiverr is designed for freelancers looking for short-term projects. If you are looking for a freelancer to work with on a long-term basis, Upwork might be the best platform for you. On Upwork, you post a job you need help with and wait for freelancers to bid on the job. You’ll pay more on Upwork than Fiverr because the site rates freelancers based on skill level and past work success, and attracts freelancers looking for stable and long-term jobs.

While a strong SEO strategy can bring you significant visibility through higher rankings, you’ll want to supplement your organic traffic with paid traffic. Run-per-click (PPC) ads on Google Ads are one of the fastest and most effective ways to rank for your most important keywords.

You don’t have to spend $50 or even $5 a day to see results from Google Ads. There is no minimum daily budget for Google Ads, and you can pause your ads at any time to stop spending money. Depending on your SEM team’s PPC strategy and testing, you can run a profitable Google Ads campaign on a relatively low budget.

It was easy to get a lot of exposure and engagement by posting for free on Facebook and Instagram. However, nowadays, both social media platforms are mostly pay-to-play.

This does not mean that you have to spend money to reach your target audience on Facebook and Instagram. Facebook’s advanced targeting features allow you to tap into your specific audience, allocating only your budget to capture their attention. Facebook Ads are integrated with Instagram Ads, so you can run both in the same campaign.

Whether you’re in the early stages of your business, or looking to bootstrap your marketing efforts, using these cheap and free digital marketing tools can help you gain more visibility and awareness while staying under budget.
