Dog Friendly Hotels Outer Banks – We love to travel, but the hardest part is always leaving our two dogs behind. When we’re not on vacation, we’re 100% with our dogs Chloè and Coco Chanel. For our big vacation this year, we wanted to do something we haven’t done before – have a vacation where the whole family can have fun with our dogs!
Each morning we hit Corolla Beach before the crowds and walked up and down the beach for about two miles before heading to our spot on the sand. As they walked, Chloe and Coco chased each other, even dipping their balls and fish into the water. It was a great way for our girls to get some light early morning exercise and then we would all relax in the morning sun. With Chloè and Coco Chanel lounging in the shade under our beach umbrella, we enjoyed the warm sun on the sand and a few cold beers.

Most days we spent less than four hours at the beach with the dogs. We have never spent a full day at the beach with our pups. This allowed us all to spend some time at the beach each morning, and then Jared and I spent the evenings exploring the Outer Banks by bike, on foot, or in our truck. Even in October, the evening sun is too much for our old girls. Also, there were a lot of stairs to climb on the way home and we never wanted our girls to be too tired to walk home because they don’t do stairs very well.

We loaded up our truck with everything we needed and headed to Karoa Beach in a 4×4 with our girls.
Our girls love relaxing in the bed of our van after a nice swim at the 4×4 beach in Karoa. This allowed us to protect them from the beach crowds and keep their sandy feet away from our beach blankets and chairs. Meanwhile, we lay on the sand and watched the powered paragliders fly overhead.

Jared and I spent evenings under the stars in our home’s elevated hot tub, steps from the ocean. Meanwhile, our girls loved lounging on the multi-level covered decks the house offered.

The master bedroom and bathroom on the third floor were gorgeous. The bed is big, the wardrobe is big. We really love all the outdoor living areas – multiple patios and decks. It is nice to sit outside and enjoy the day and night zone.
We loved cooking a full breakfast every morning in our fully equipped kitchen with pots and pans, cookware, dishes and utensils, then enjoying our delicious meals on our rooftop ocean view patio. The home’s high ceilings and large windows let in plenty of natural light, and the fireplace in the main living room was a welcome feature in the evenings.
We really loved the Buck Island community. The community seemed very calm and peaceful. We don’t know if it’s just because of the holiday season or if it’s always like this, but we really enjoyed the peace and quiet and how pet-friendly the neighborhood is. It is conveniently located near the beach and Timbuck II, two of the biggest selling points for us.

What will we find when we get to foreign banks? Our travels through Beaufort, North Carolina introduced us to stories about one of the state’s most famous pirates, Blackbeard (or Edward Teach, as his mother called him). His spirit (or at least his name) can be seen all over the Outer Banks.
I remember in high school being fascinated by stories of the lost English colony of Roanoke Island. The only clue to the disappearance of more than 100 colonists was the word “Croato” carved into a rock. Even today there is not enough archaeological evidence to know what happened.
Some argue that the colonists joined the local Algonquin community. Others point to the poor relations of the original colonists with the early settlers, arguing that the colonists would have been killed or starved without outside support.

Nags Head Beach Hotel
The Outer Banks (or OBX) are a series of barrier islands. Well, not exactly islands. The Northern Outer Banks is now landlocked after years of storm surge. The northernmost peninsula is south of Virginia Beach, near marshes that are more impressive than they sound.
North Carolina Route 12 connects most of the island’s settlements. The route ends at the entrances where the ferry service runs until it resumes on the next island. Yes, all North Carolina ferries are pet friendly!
The bridge did not reach the Outer Banks until the 1930s. The only access was by boat. As a result, the accent of some locals is quite different, sounding more like the British Isles than the rest of North Carolina.
One thing the Outer Banks shares with the rest of the South is hospitality, especially if you’re with a furry friend.

Foreign Banks has something for everyone. Let’s start with the biggest draw to the area… the beach!
Most beaches on the Outer Banks are dog-friendly with only a few restrictions during the day. Of course, all beaches must be cleaned after your pet has been bagged and removed and buried in the sand.
The following restrictions do not apply to service dogs trained to assist the disabled.
It should also be noted that wild horses live on the outer shores of the northern tip. So if your dog is interested in large creatures, not following the leash rules can be dangerous.

Corolla – Corolla beaches are pet-friendly all year round at all times of the day. However, you should always keep pets on a leash. Use the handy city guide to find all public access points and amenities.
Duck – As long as your dog is under your voice control and doesn’t disturb wildlife or other beachgoers, your dog can have fun on the beach off-leash. However, you won’t find any public beach access points at Duck. Stay at one of these pet-friendly rental properties and you’ll have a great time on your own private beach.
The city accepts leashed dogs with proper identification and proof of rabies vaccination. It includes the Boardwalk, Duck Trail and Duck Park.
South Beach – Dogs are welcome on the beach at any time of the day and on public holidays from 6:00 PM to 9:00 AM (May 15 – September 15).

Kitty Hawk – From the Friday before Memorial Day through the day after Labor Day, dogs can go on a 6-foot leash from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From 18:00 to 10:00 a.m. dogs can be on the beach with a 12 meter leash.
You can bring Fido to the beach the rest of the year, as long as he stays within 30 feet of you, returns when called, and doesn’t disturb others.
As the sun begins to set, you and our dog can enjoy exploring along Kitty Hawk Beach. Honey likes to be naked on the beach.
