School owner Ilonka Soto-Pelyvas (Ilonka SP) was born and raised in Chile, South America, and knew her creative career was in her future. “I think I was born a designer, I think I was born a musician,” said Ilonka. As a child, she designed clothes for Barbies and sold them at school. The business environment is very young.

Early in her design career, Ilonka made punk and goth-inspired clubwear with her two sisters, looking for band members. Most of the designs are created from the classic look and the girls look transformed and fashionable. “My mother and I had a problem because we painted all the pots in the kitchen black with fabric paint,” said Ilonka.

After arriving in the US, he lived and spent his life in New York, where he designed club clothes and eventually moved to Dallas. Corsets, jewelry, bridal wear, more club wear and party wear were fun to open many creative shops. “I was just having fun,” said Ilonka.

The opportunity to move to Austin presented itself in 2010, and after attending Austin Fashion Week, the city has more to offer than you might imagine. “I was nervous and excited. Everything seemed to come back to me. It feels like a community,” he said. It was here that he created a variety of shirts, dresses and casual wear. One of his biggest creations was a client’s logo design for the opening of The Thinkery in Austin.

It is clear that Ilonka cares about each student who walks through her door and what she intends to achieve from each student.
