The College of Engineering and Computer Science was one of the four original academic colleges that WH UCF began in 1968 as Florida Technological University. The Florida State University System Board of Regents approved the creation of a college of engineering on September 16, 1966. The College of Engineering and Technology was launched on March 28, 1969.

The college completed the third general building planned in 2000-2002 for the EECS school with a $15 million allocation from the State of Florida. In 2005, Harris Corporation donated $3 million to the College of Engineering & Computer Science, which resulted in the building being named the Harris Corporation Engineering Center.

Computer Science (b.s./b.a.)

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was established in 1999 due to the merger of the School of Computer Science with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. In 2005, the Computer Science and ECE programs were truly merged (administratively and curricularly) into one EECS school.

The Department of Electricity Generation and Computer Science has achieved many great achievements in its history. The Computer Science Programming Team participates in the Computer Science Association International Collegiate Programming Competition (ACM-ICPC) and placed 1st in the fall 2016 and 2017 ACM Southeast Regional Programming Competitions. Since 1982, the college has been ranked as “Top 3” in the state. The team finished 13th in the spring 2017 world finals (Best team in the US and 2nd in North America). The team did better at the 2018 Spring World Finals in Beijing, China. The team placed 10th out of a total of 140 teams, earning a bronze medal and the title of North American Champion. The team has qualified for the program having reached 29 finals since 1983, up to 2 in the competition.

Until January 2013 there was no UCF scholarship team in this tournament. In their inaugural season, the UCF CCDC Team finished 1st in the Southern Collegiate Cyber ​​Defense Competition and placed 10th in the National Collegiate Cyber ​​Defense Competition. The UCF CCDC team came back stronger in 2014 and once again won the Southern Collegiate Cyber ​​Defense Competition and 1st place in the National Collegiate Cyber ​​Defense Competition as the National Cyber ​​Defense Champions. UCF continued its winning traditions in 2015 when it finished in 1st place at the Southeast Collegiate Cyber ​​​​​​Defse​​​​​​ together.

Metropolitan Orlando supports the world’s largest cluster of modeling, simulation and training companies. Just south of the main campus is the Central Florida Research Park, which is one of the largest research parks in the nation.
