What I mean is that sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error to know exactly how a test works, and this is normal.

Simple Baking Soda And Vinegar Science Experiments For Kids!

And, children learn A LOT in the process of finding out what happened. For example, yesterday we did some experiments on static electricity to share with you all. We couldn’t make the balloons do what they were supposed to do (push each other), but then I realized that my son had let the balloons touch each other. When the balloons touch each other, the charges between the balloons balance and there is no more repulsion! My son learned that when objects touch each other, they transfer an electrical charge.

Another time, when trying to light steel wool with a battery, we learned that steel wool measurement is important. In fact, it is VERY important. Once we had the right gauge, it worked perfectly!

Anyway, reiterate that science can be messy sometimes, but it’s always a learning experience. And now… experience them!

Make some hot stones in baking soda and vinegar. This rock isn’t really ice…it’s a chemical solution that crystallizes immediately when you pour it! Cool, I mean hot. It’s really hot to the touch because of the heat released when it crystallizes!

Test for acid and base by creating your own Red Cabbage pH indicator. This is really great! Impressive, effortless and error-free results.

This sand volcano is a fun twist on the classic baking soda and vinegar volcano! It’s MUCH easier than paper mache and kids can pop the volcanoes over and over again.

Make coins shine again with vinegar and salt! It is amazing how bright and clean they are. Find your dirtiest coin and try this experiment!

If you haven’t tried blowing up balloons with baking soda and vinegar, you really should! This is fun for preschoolers and up.

Burning steel wool and batteries. This project needs adult help and supervision, but it’s fun! Put everything in a pan to make it easy.

Prove that air occupies space – it’s easy for children to think that air is “nothing”, but air is problematic because it occupies space and has mass. Prove it with this fun demonstration!
