At Austin College, the PA program aims to provide the knowledge, skills, professional conduct, and medical humanitarian concepts that graduates must acquire in order to provide compassionate and quality health care to each patient throughout their professional journey. The PA program curriculum is a set of integrated courses lasting 24 months, beginning with 13 months of intensive didactic classroom instruction followed by an 11-month clinical phase. After completing the degree, graduates take the national certification exam and practice as paramedics/junior doctors. Students must complete at least a bachelor’s degree before enrolling in the PA program.

Austin College has applied for provisional accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission for Physician Assistant Education (ARC-PA). The Austin College PA program expects to enter its first class in June 2024 before receiving accreditation – provisional status at the ARC-PA meeting in September 2023.

Accreditation – Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plan and allocation of resources, if fully implemented in accordance with the proposed program plan for which students are not yet enrolled, demonstrate the program’s ability to meet ARC- PA Standards, or when the program is accredited. – The provisional status appears to indicate continued progress towards meeting the Standards when preparing for the first class (group) of students to graduate. The PA program at Austin College will not begin unless pre-accreditation is received. This means that students will not be allowed to participate in the program and any deposits made will be refunded. The Austin College PA program is also awaiting approval from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Department of Education at Austin College is committed to preparing the next generation of teacher leaders. Through this five-year Master of Arts program, you can earn a bachelor’s degree as well as take continuing education courses. This accelerated program allows you to complete a bachelor’s degree, earn a teaching certification, and complete a master’s degree in 4.5 years.

Texas Tech University at Austin College offers the opportunity to earn a master’s degree from Texas Tech University at Austin College. Three different master’s degrees were initially offered: Master of Arts in Strategic Communication and Innovation, Master of Arts in Technical Communication, and Master of Public Administration. In the spring of 2022, the Master of Arts in Strategic Communications is available to qualified Austin College students through the various pathways listed below. University Of Texas At Austin

Texas Tech University and Austin College have partnered to provide on-campus master’s courses for undergraduate AC students who meet the foundation’s qualifications. Beginning in spring 2022, one live TTU MCOM course will be offered each fall and spring semester, and additional online or hybrid options are also available. Students who successfully complete this partner course have the opportunity to “double dip” by earning credits towards the TTU Master’s degree in Communication, as well as returning the completed courses as elective credits towards the corresponding AC Bachelor’s degree (TTU requires a B. degree or higher, to qualify for a master’s degree, AC requires a grade of C or higher to qualify for translation). Some of these courses will also meet AC standards for applied learning credits and TTU designations for service learning.

This affiliate course focuses on the concepts of strategic audience segmentation, target market strategies, applied writing and implementing strategic decisions through communication campaigns (traditional, social media, internet). This class will include student-led client problem analysis and presentation of client solutions to North Texas clients (small businesses and/or nonprofits).

AC students should add this course to the Spring 2022 Web Schedule and then contact Dr. Brown for more information on full enrollment. This course is listed on the web hopper under the LOAN TRANSFER category and is listed as the only strategic communication course.

AC Mentor/Advisor: This course is best suited for students interested in pursuing careers in professional and applied communication across all disciplines, and students who have completed most of AC’s interdisciplinary writing requirements.

Graduate Programs For Health Science Majors

Austin College students who have earned a bachelor’s degree are invited to apply as full-time graduate students for the Texas Technical Master’s Program in Mass Communication. Admitted students can choose to live on the Austin College campus with a combination of on-campus master’s level courses and hybrid/online offerings as they pursue their degree. Previous graduate credits from the 4+1 pathway/partnership course will be applied in full towards the Master’s degree. Limited scholarships and other financial aid may be available to full-time graduate students through Texas Tech.

Texas Institute of Technology and Austin College invite regional professionals to join the DFW/NT Professional MCOM Cohort. Accepted students may join Texas Tech MCOM courses directly on the Austin College campus and/or choose a fully online course delivery option. Pro Cohort students will also have a variety of professional networking opportunities.
