It was the first day of December on the Harvard Kennedy School campus, and Kellyanne Conway wore a cardigan the color of Donald Trump’s hair. A fitting choice, perhaps, for a campaign manager who recently pulled off the most sensational presidential upset in American history. Now at the center of power in Washington, Conway, a longtime GOP pollster, is surrounded by nearly a dozen top political allies who led the campaigns of either Trump or Hillary Clinton. The two of them sat together in a conference room with wood paneling and white banquet tables. The orderly table’s row of microphones and water bottles created an air of erudition and grace.
Since 1972, the HKS Institute of Politics has invited key stalwarts of both the Republican and Democratic presidential tickets, from Mary Matalin to David Axelrod, with the goal of capturing a “first draft of history,” as the school likes. In recent decades, the ritual has largely consisted of journalists repeatedly questioning political gurus about campaign opportunities in newspapers. Even as the agitation heated up, the conversation here was cool. The losers respected the winners and everyone complained
The Statement Of Purpose That Got Me Into Harvard (2021)
Personification. Afterwards, participants headed to a bar for a friendly toast before heading home for the winter.
Nearly two hours into the 2016 event, Conway’s deputy praised former Breitbart executive and controversial White House chief strategist Steve Bannon — who accepted an invitation to the conference but pulled out at the last minute — as an “incredibly talented strategist.” In response, Clinton campaign communications director Jennifer Palmieri was blunt. “If providing a platform for white supremacists makes me a better strategist, I’m happy to lose,” she fumed, adding, “I’d rather lose than win the way you did.”
Moments later, Conway continued, “You think I ran a campaign where white supremacists had a platform? Would you look me in the face and say that?
The show instantly made national headlines, and for good reason: In an era where liberals and conservatives can agree, government in Washington, D.C. can only be more antagonistic and hopelessly representative of the current political landscape. More than ever. The high-level but ultimately chaotic and unproductive meeting of America’s most powerful political minds is equally indicative of the situation at the Harvard Kennedy School. You’d think that here on the banks of the Charles River, the cradle of public policy education, would offer some optimism in these turbulent times. After all, HKS produces hundreds of well-intentioned graduates each year—exactly the dreamers many of us assume will free us from today’s unprecedented partisan gridlock. But will they?
Of The Most Famous Harvard Grads — And Dropouts — Of Modern Time
In the 1960s, the graduate school John F. Its star was tied to the Kennedy legacy, with the thought that it would recruit the country’s best and brightest and turn them into America’s next great public leaders. Today, however, all signs point to something very different. The school’s mission has moved away from Kennedy’s ideals, and the curriculum no longer emphasizes public service, preparing students for a range of more lucrative careers in the private sector. Although the school is cautious about its acceptance rate, it is believed to be several times higher than other Harvard schools. What it lacks in exclusivity, HKS seems to make up for with big names to maintain its heavy reliance on its world-famous alumni and powerful VIP speakers, and to continue to persuade new faces to apply for what has long been considered an undergrad. the challenger
HKS Dean Douglas Elmendorf says the school hasn’t abandoned the public sector, but it’s not losing sleep over HKS graduates scraping the door in the consulting world. “I am incredulous about the path our students will take for public purposes any more,” he says, adding that he wants “a significant number of them to go into government jobs.”
When the Kennedy family bestowed their name on the Harvard School of Government 50 years ago, HKS was to inspire and produce the next generation of political lions. But as we move deeper into this era of hyper-contentious politics in DC, it remains to be seen whether the school will play a relevant role and provide much-needed leadership and solutions. However, after talking to students, graduates, and faculty, one thing is clear: You no longer go to the Harvard Kennedy School to grease the wheels of democracy; You will make your own career shine.

Doctor Of Philosophy
From the beginning, HKShad was the unwanted stepson of his father, Harvard. In the early 20th century, the very idea of a graduate professional school of public service drew the ire of faculty members who already supported the establishment of the business school. College heads feared that such an undertaking would undermine their scholarship, even more so than at Harvard Business School. If stopped
