I am often asked, “How much do electricians make?” they ask. Having trained as an electrician myself and having employed dozens and dozens of electricians over the years, I appreciate that my personal experience with pay rates can vary greatly from that of others.
I thought I’d go online and ask real electricians how much they make to dig deeper into the myth that electricians make six figure salaries.
I asked over 500 electrical professionals on LinkedIn and Twitter to share their salary information and conducted a Twitter survey to find out what electricians earned in 2018-2019.
Seizure: What It Is, Causes, Symptoms & Types
The Daily Mail reported in 2017: Electricians earn up to £3,000 a week as they capitalize on a chronic shortage of skilled workers across the country.
That’s £156,000 a year – around six times the average salary and more than the £150,000 the Prime Minister earned.
I created two polls on twitter @danstheengineer asking how much #electricians get paid on twitter. One survey is for employed people and the other is for self-employed people.
The average salary for an electrician rose by 5% to £32,315 last year, according to the Office for National Statistics. That’s £123,685, up from £156,000, the Daily Mail reports. A few pounds, right?
Safety Tips: Avoid Injury From Workplace Electrical Hazards
The JIB is a trade body that publishes guidelines for electricians’ hourly wages on its website. However, please note that not all employers follow these guidelines. Employers do not need to register with the JIB, meaning employers can pay as much as they want as long as they meet the government minimum wage.
From Monday 7 January 2019, JIB will offer national standard hourly wages if you have your own transport:
There are different grades of “Electricians” and JIB sets the requirement on how to achieve the grade. Many in the industry look to JIB rates as a guide whether they are registered with JIB or not.
A certified electrician is an electrician who has at least two years’ electrical experience and has completed a further course in inspection and testing and periodic testing.
In The Right Light
A plant technician is a person who has 5 years’ experience as a certified electrician and has advanced qualifications such as an electrical design and inspection course.
I asked the electricians how much they earned per year, whether they worked on PAYE or CIS, were employed, employed or self-employed, the hours they worked and what part of the country they worked in.
The people surveyed ranged from employees of large companies, electricians who only work in construction, business owners, one-man teams, recruiters and managers.
I divided the survey results into 3 parts of the country; London, where wages are higher than anywhere else in the country. Northern Ireland, where wages are lower than elsewhere in the country. National located elsewhere than London and Northern Ireland.
The Evolution Of Vehicle Performance Engineering In The Electrical Age
I then divided the salary into 3 groups within the location; Works for companies, individual groups and business owners. A person who works for a company is a “hand” operator, who is employed or self-employed and does not run his own business, but works directly in one or more contractor companies. The operational staff levels are similar to the definition used by the JIB. A technician will also be a QS (Qualified Supervisor) or Highly Qualified Supervisor. The category “Job for some” also includes electrical managers. The category “one-man group” is an electrician who works alone, is an individual or has his own company but does not employ anyone other than an apprentice. A group of one person versus working in sales for another company. The director of the company is the owner of an electrical contractor company that employs several employees. They can be partly manual.
For the record, the roles of operations personnel and electrical manager are calculated for 40 hours per week. It was difficult to determine the hours worked for company directors and one-man teams, so salaries were simply calculated based on the amount earned over a 12-month period. All fees are annual salary before tax.
As you can see, with the growth of the class, there is a clear trend in the salary of operators working in the company. Electrical conductors earn slightly more than a certified electrician and less than a technician electrician. One man bands make the same salary as a licensed electrician, and business owners make less than many operators!
The fee really varies from country to country. Electricians in London and the South East region generally earn more than elsewhere. Wages in Northern Ireland are much lower than elsewhere. Many people have told me that it is because of the cost of living in these areas. Having lived and worked near London all my life, I can confirm that it costs quite a lot to live and work there! Interestingly, some of the recruiters who provided their information claimed that their clients pay higher rates not only in London but also in larger cities such as Cambridge. Recruiters also argued that the rates paid to electricians did not really make a difference whether someone was employed or self-employed.
China Industrial Profits In Biggest Fall In Four Years As Us Tariffs Bite
Self-employed people earn slightly more than employed electricians, but often self-employed people have to pay for their own transport, they are not always entitled to holiday and usually do not receive a company package. those who are employed.
Salaries for self-employed one-person groups look particularly poor compared to those employed because of the hours, stress and pressure required to run a small business.
When I ask company directors about their salaries, they are often lower than the electricians who work for them, and they often say that the company does not have enough money to pay them. There seems to be a similar trend among solo bands and company directors!
There were some electrical managers who earned more than £65,000 a year, but they usually worked in specialist areas such as hazardous environments where they were responsible for maintenance and ongoing upgrades.
Getting Ready For The Skills Interview
There are some job adverts for electrician roles that claim to pay £32 an hour, for example Aspect Maintenance Services on Total Jobs or Pimlico Plumbers advertise £60,000 – £100,000 a year.
