The IO psychology concentration in the M.S. in Applied Psychology program prepares students to address organizational and rigorous and methodical problems. An MS (Master of Science) is not the same as an M.P.S. (Master of Professional Studies):
Conversely, an M.P.S. This degree is aimed at early-mid-career professionals who want qualifications and basic skills in IO psychology. It is not considered the same by industry professionals and academics.

What Is Industrial Organizational Psychology?
The IO psychology curriculum develops students’ competencies in all areas recommended by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP, Division 14 of the American Psychological Association). Our students participate in real-world experiential learning activities and simulations, such as conducting job analyzes with real clients, preparing personal evaluation reports, and developing organizational surveys.
IO’s Psychology concentration also offers students the opportunity to prepare for the global workforce through relevant coursework and international collaborative projects (both virtual and in-person), such as the European Erasmus Mundus Winter School program.

The Schaeffer Center for Public Policy offers selective fellowships for full-time students to work on applied research projects. Recent graduate Leigh Cantor, M.S. ’21, landed a paid summer internship with CapSource as a result of his X-Culture capstone project. X-Culture is a marketing project where students from all over the world join virtual global teams to analyze a company, develop strategies for the company to improve profitability, win sponsors and corner new markets in other countries. The project consists of a 25-page report with three sections: market analysis (industry and competition analysis, competitors and a SWOT analysis of the company), marketing (promotional channels and materials), and price and distribution (proposed partnerships and suggestions for growth. , profits, and turning new markets). After the project there is an optional presentation students can make to summarize the results; If the presentations are selected, the team will present live at the closing ceremony, where representatives of the companies involved in the project are present to listen to the results and ask clarifying questions. Cantor’s X-Culture project – selected from 650 global teams – led to the internship opportunity with CapSource.
