Master Of Social Work Programs – Our program has been fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) since 2003. We are proud to offer high quality MSW programs with clinical concentrations. For those with an undergraduate degree in a field other than social work, we offer traditional, full-time and part-time program options. For those with a bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW), we offer advanced, full-time and part-time standing program options.

In addition to our land-based program on the Main Campus in Johnson City, TN, we are now offering a new 100% online MSW program option for domestic students. Classes are a mix of synchronous and asynchronous methods. There will be simultaneous class meetings in the afternoon and evening. Both options will be of the same programming quality as the renowned MSW Program.

Master Of Social Work Programs

We have a great faculty group with extensive experience and expertise, and I am proud to say that our full-time faculty teach the majority of our courses – which is a significant benefit for our students. We also have a strong tradition of student engagement through the Master of Social Work Student Association (MSWSA), which meets monthly and is a strong advocacy voice in our department and for the profession. Their activities include an annual Legislative Conference and representation on faculty committees. We are also fortunate to have strong community relations through our field programs and the Community Advisory Committee. Master Of Social Work Program Overview

As well as building a strong foundation in the knowledge needed by all social workers, graduates of FIFSW’s Master of Social Work receive advanced skills training specific to the communities they choose to serve. Blending theoretical and practical learning, the program produces graduates who can think critically about practice and, most importantly, who are ready to enter their chosen field.

FIFSW offers a full-time Two-Year MSW program (for those starting without a BSW degree) and an Advanced Standing MSW program (full-time or part-time, for those starting with a BSW degree).

Our MSW, Trauma and Indigenous Resilience programs prepare trauma-aware social workers working with Indigenous communities in Canada and around the world.

Each year the Factor-Inwentash School of Social Work receives more qualified applications than there are available places in the program. The first half of LSU’s MSW is called the “common year”, which covers key concepts and theories in the field and even offers an internship component where students can gain real-world experience. The second half, known as the “specialist year,” includes coursework covering topics in theory and medicine, as well as electives, internships, and thesis or dissertation exit requirements. Students who successfully complete the MSW program leave LSU knowing they have the skills and tools to make a difference.

Classes last seven weeks and can be completed anywhere, while a place-based internship allows students to gain valuable experience in the field.

The MSW degree usually takes 2 years to complete. However, highly motivated students without a Bachelor of Social Work can complete it in less than two years. Those with a BSW who qualify for our advanced status program can complete it in 9-12 months.

The MSW School of Social Work LSU program is accredited by the Council for Social Work Education (CSWE), the only body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit social work education programs in the United States. Our MSW program meets the CSWE curriculum and field education standards for MSW degrees. However, the following states have entry-level professional licensing requirements that differ from this standard in the following ways:

The School of Social Work can assist students in meeting their state licensure requirements. Applicants and students are encouraged to refer to their state licensure board for more information on current licensure requirements. State licensing boards can be found by visiting the Association of Social Work Boards. Students living in states where licensing requirements differ from the School’s curriculum and field education standards should notify the Office of Field Education immediately.
