As a student in the Clinical Psychology program, you will have the opportunity to gain extensive experience in the application of supervised mental health services. The required 15 credits of practicum and internship are designed to provide you with hands-on experience and professional skills, along with exposure to the organization and structure of mental health agencies. During your first year of study, you will complete an on-campus internship in Health and Wellness Services, which serves as an on-campus counseling center for the university. Health and Wellness Services, staffed by clinical psychology faculty members, provides a therapeutic experience for students and adults.

After completing the on-campus practicum, you will complete a 600-hour internship at an off-campus mental health agency under the supervision of a qualified psychologist. Internship opportunities are offered at local mental health centers, state hospitals, adolescent treatment centers, and chemical dependency programs. Teaching assistants are not available during the internship semester.

The clinical psychology program is designed to last two years. The program consists of approximately three semesters of coursework and one semester of internship (see course sequence above). Upon completion of the program, students graduate with a master’s degree in psychology (clinical emphasis) and qualify for licensure in Kansas.
