Wake Forest Law has launched a part-time, fully online Master of Laws (MSL) program for working professionals who want to better understand the law.

Applications are being accepted here for fall 2016. The degree program, which can be completed in less than two years, combines the flexibility and accessibility of online learning with the rigor and academic excellence that are the hallmarks of Wake Forest Law. MSL Online is the law school’s first fully online degree offering.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide a Wake Forest Law education to individuals who would not be able to take advantage of this unique opportunity due to geography alone,” explains Dean Suzanne Reynolds (JD ’77). “Our new online MSL degree is designed to help professionals reach the next level in their careers.”

Designed with input from business and industry leaders, the customized curriculum combines a thorough knowledge of the law and its importance in the workplace. Students take a set of required core courses specifically designed to introduce them to the relevant foundations of the law, and then choose electives based on their chosen professional course in either health law and policy or human resources .

“I chose to pursue my Wake Forest MSL Law degree because of the flexibility of distance learning,” says Crystal Richmond, a paralegal living in Atlanta, Georgia. “The program is complete but in-depth, and the courses are up-to-date and relevant. I found the professors very helpful.”

All courses are specially designed and taught only to MSL students, says MSL interim director Ellen Murphy (JD ’02), associate dean for instructional design.

“Classes are taught by full-time Wake Forest Law faculty in collaboration with industry experts, so students benefit from team-based learning in an environment focused on real issues,” she says.

The program is available to students throughout the country. The fully asynchronous degree takes advantage of the latest technology to combine flexibility with interactivity and collaborative learning.

“Asynchronous learning at Wake Forest Law is special,” adds Murphy. “Students receive an unparalleled level of faculty interaction through our learning management system and state-of-the-art video conferencing tools. The courses include videos and podcasts created and produced by the professor. Professionals progress through units each week, with regular assignment deadlines, peer collaboration, faculty interaction, and feedback.”

Online Master’s Degree In Healthcare Administration

Admission to the MSL graduate program is based on the applicant’s work experience, professional training and academic record. Standardized test scores are not required.

Tuition for the MSL degree is $900 per credit hour, or $27,000 at the current tuition rate. Students can expect to enroll in 3-6 credit hours each semester, Murphy says.

Topics covered include an introduction to the field of forensic medicine, medical evidence in litigation, advanced medical malpractice topics, and the structure and operation of the health care delivery system. Cross-listed with GOV 684 and LAW 743.

Basic principles of health care law including state and federal regulatory authorities, public/private insurance payers, compliance issues for health care providers (including Stark laws, anti-kickback laws and civil fines), health care contracting, and current issues in the health care industry.

All new students are expected to register for the semester two weeks before the session start date. Students must apply, be accepted, enroll in their first courses, and confirm their course payment plan before this date.

**To be fully earned and eligible to receive the Bar Preparation Review Course upon graduation at no additional cost except for postage, a $250 refundable materials deposit, and sales tax of state. J.D. students must pay $430 for six semesters.
