Explore topics such as systems theory, family life development, communication processes, and conflict resolution from the perspective of scripture and interactional systems. Research and evaluate different family structures. Prerequisite: COUN 526.

Rehabilitation And Mental Health Counseling (m.s.)

Conceptual and practical overview of group counseling, including the role of group leadership; tools for group formation and member placement; and promotes communication skills for conducting and evaluating counseling/treatment groups. Emphasis is placed on leadership techniques and ethical issues used at various levels in team life. Participate in a small group to develop self-awareness, interpersonal skills, and understanding of team skills and techniques. Prerequisite: COUN 500, COUN 521 and COUN 526.

A final seminar that presents general concepts of moral, legal, ethical, and spiritual issues in counseling. Relevant studies form the basis of the discussion. Prerequisite: COUN 521 for Student Advising.

It addresses basic, contextual dimensions and basic knowledge and skills to work in specific settings in institutional, community and emergency environments. Emphasis is on intervention in clinical, emergency, crisis and trauma settings, including emergency diagnosis, intervention, support, referral and counselling. A rigorous and experiential course to develop personal and professional communication skills when working with people in our modern, pluralistic society. Examines religion as an element of pluralism.

Examines practice integration within a Christian worldview and examines practice integration theory and examples of counseling practice.

Placement to work in a professional counseling setting closely supervised by a trained mental health professional. Develop skills in applying the knowledge and experience gained through the counselor training program as a member of a professional mental health team. In addition to on-site supervision, participate in a weekly internship seminar led by an advising faculty professor. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. pass / not pass

Important Note: If you are admitted to the online program, you are required to attend the program and successfully complete two one-week residencies. Students have the option of arriving in residence in January or August. Students wishing to pursue an accelerated pace must attend first-year residency in January and August.
