The program also helped her reconnect with MIT: Bamgboi spent a semester studying in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering in 2019 as part of an academic exchange. Once enrolled in the DEDP program, Bamgboye immediately realized that he had stepped up a notch in the intensity of his studies, especially compared to his undergraduate work. “One learns so much in a short time,” he said. “In an undergraduate degree [in the UK], you learn a core skill over two years [before you specialize in a third or fourth year], whereas in a MicroMasters, if you take courses at the same time, you’re potentially learning a core skill. three to six months.
According to Bamgboye, this intensity is all for the good, helping to build learners’ confidence in the skills they have acquired: “By the time you get to the exams, where you have to consolidate everything you’ve learned, you’ll surprise yourself. . How will they evolve to be more efficient and less intensive? How do we use science to help existing people?”

Bamgboye also found ways to use and learn from his partners as part of his professional life. In her current role as a consulting partner at Bain & Company, she is able to devote ten percent of her time to projects of her choice, focusing on social impact. She volunteers with a variety of not-for-profit organizations across the UK, helping them achieve scale and impact. Thanks to his DEDP training, “I can now provide contextual examples of how different social policies can validate and quantify which of their interventions are most effective.”
He will also use his graduate studies as a springboard for new educational opportunities.
