This degree is designed to fit the work schedule of pk-12 teachers and administrators and can be completed in two years or less with evening courses taught at convenient locations across the state. This course is designed to offer a balanced approach to the study of educational leadership. The course explores the theoretical foundations of school organization, focusing on basic management theories, decision-making processes, and concepts that apply to school management at the building level. Explores the multifaceted role of administrators as educators, leaders, managers, and reflective practitioners. The course content focuses on the importance of a leader’s vision and guides future school leaders in the process of creating a mission and vision. Through this process, future school leaders will learn how vision connects to school culture and the importance of communication and stakeholder engagement. Future school leaders will demonstrate how multiple sources of information connect to mission, vision, core values, and informed legal and ethical guidelines. This course introduces future school leaders to the theory, knowledge, skills and techniques of school supervision. It focuses on improving teaching and learning and building a culture of mutual support and respect for staff, with an emphasis on the supervisor’s role in building positive relationships with staff. This course will help future school leaders understand how and why student demographic analysis is used to determine overall school diversity and will explain its implications for teaching and learning. This course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to function effectively as a program leader or director/administrator in performing supervisory and evaluation functions in a school leadership role. Missouri’s teacher evaluation system and recruitment, training, and retention processes will be discussed. The learning methodology includes individual and group collaborative activities through case studies, discussions, simulations/role plays and classroom presentations. Participants will explore the digital transformation of education and how it affects the classroom. You will learn to use different learning frameworks to analyze technology needs and innovations. You will develop a technology vision for your school and develop a process for planning and advocating for the necessary technology integration. It focuses on guiding future administrators and teacher leaders in understanding the changes required to effectively use instructional technology to create learning environments focused on 21st century skills and providing instruction on the use of technology to improve professional practice and effectiveness.
