Enrollment in GS 700 is a cost-effective way to extend the course by one semester while completing a thesis or comprehensive exam. Students should register for GS 700 if:
Charged one credit unit for payment purposes, even if GS 700 is a zero-unit course from the course or GS 700 in the semester intended to be completed; No units count toward a student’s program or degree.

The Graduate Advisor will issue permission to enroll in GS 700 for the sole purpose of gaining graduate experience.
Before a graduate advisor is allowed to enroll in GS 700, the applying student must meet with the graduate advisor for a tutoring appointment. During this appointment, the graduate advisor will review the student’s academic progress and verify compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
Students are permitted to enroll in GS 700 for no more than two (2) semesters unless otherwise required.
Passes for GS 700 will be issued within the first three weeks of the semester. After the university’s “Census Date,” GS 700 “late additions” will not be permitted unless there are compelling circumstances.
Field Placement In Disasters: An Evaluation Of The Experience Of Students Obtaining Masters Degrees
Graduate students are not required to enroll in GS 700 in the winter or summer semesters unless they have already graduated at that time. The winter term will be the last day to add a term (this happens in the first week of school). During the summer term, the deadline for additions will be the last day of week 3 of the summer term.

Each applicant must have completed an appropriate bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 semester units. A student with an overall GPA below 3.0 but who provides acceptable evidence of professional potential through recent academic performance and/or experience may be admitted by special action of the department’s graduate committee.
