Masters In Public Policy And Administration – About the course The Master of Public Policy (MPP) is an intensive one-year course offering a distinctive approach to the study of public policy. The MPP begins with a carefully planned program of activities during the induction period, which provides an introduction to policy making and advice on how to get the most out of the MPP experience. The curriculum for the rest of the course is delivered through a series of lectures, seminars, case studies and workshops over three semesters and the Summer Project, an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills gained through the program in a public policy context.

You can also tailor your studies to meet your professional needs by choosing from a range of options, and deepen your professional and practical skills through modules such as Negotiation, Communications, Private Finance and Design Thinking. You’ll also hone your skills and exposure to the challenges of realpolitik through a six- to eight-week summer project. MPP students are expected to fully commit to their studies and take responsibility for their active participation in all aspects of the programme.

Besides teaching, which may include lectures, case studies, workshops and seminars, we encourage you to learn from each other, for example by forming study groups and organizing student-led talks and events. You will also be expected to do some self-directed research, including required and additional readings and case studies. You may also choose to apply for a Master of Public Policy Studies at the same time that you apply for a Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree as part of the Blavatnik School 1+1 program. This two-year program allows you to be accepted to both degrees in the same time.

To be considered for 1+1 Public Policy, you must submit separate applications for the Master of Public Policy (MPP) and Master of Public Policy Studies in the same admissions cycle. You should follow the instructions in the How to Apply section of each course page, paying particular attention to the personal statement and writing requirements for each course. You must clearly state that you would like to be considered for the 1+1 Public Policy program in your personal statement.

It is recommended that all students meet with their supervisors at least once per semester. The responsibility for allocating graduate supervision of this course rests with Blavatnik State School and it is not always possible to accommodate incoming students’ preferences for working with a particular staff member. In exceptional circumstances, a supervisor may be found outside of the Blavatnik School of Management.

Your learning for each unit will be assessed in different ways. Current methods include open book assessment, essays, and in-class examinations that are more practical in nature.

The MPP is a degree for professionals that trains people to improve their policy-making and analytical skills and is not designed to prepare you for research-based courses such as the DPhil in Public Policy.

Persons who successfully complete this course may also progress to the MA in Public Policy Studies as part of the Blavatnik School 1+1 program, provided that successful applications to both programs are submitted in the same admission cycle and that all requirements for the Blavatnik School 1+1 program (shown on page program) is complete.
