Unconditional Admission: For unconditional admission to graduate studies, students must be in good standing at the last institution attended and meet all of the admission requirements of a degree program and one of the following:
Earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a minimum of 2.5 overall GPA, or a minimum of 2.75 GPA in the last 60 semester hours of courses.
A minimum of 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) is required for any thesis attempted without a D or F grade.

Our mission is to prepare students pursuing a master’s degree for leadership positions in teaching mathematics as a master math teacher in middle school (6-9), high school (9-12), or post-secondary institutions such as community colleges. We offer both a Master of Education and a Master of Science in Mathematics Education. The Master of Science degree requires a final thesis project, but otherwise they are the same.
Students enrolled in this program to enhance educator knowledge and skills have the opportunity to work with renowned experts in many facets of science education research and practice. Graduates return to the workforce and are prepared to become state and nationally recognized leaders in science education.
Engineering and Technology Education graduates are mentored to fill leadership roles that enable them to make significant differences in technology-related careers. Our transdisciplinary Master of Science in STEM program, developed in collaboration with P-12 school partners, offers candidates individualized coursework, professional development opportunities, and embedded hands-on experiences, culminating in a capstone experience that encompasses action research, teacher leadership, and innovation combined.
Online Master Of Education In Early Childhood Education
The program consists of 30 hours of coursework culminating in student-designed dissertation research. The links below detail the curriculum requirements for the two programs. The program is not a fully online program and students must be able to commute to the UK campus in Lexington, KY at least once a week for classes. However, there are some courses that are entirely online and others that are hybrid (half online and half on campus) to help students with long commutes.
The time required to complete the program varies based on student and professional experiences, interests, and career goals.
Within the first year of the program, you must select an advisor from the STEM faculty who has a similar background and interests. Contact dr. Fisher if you need help choosing. Your student advisor will help you choose your courses each semester.

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to take leave, warn your advisor and the DGS. When you have done so, you should contact (by email) Mary Richardson (mrich6@null uky.edu) at Graduate School to inform her of your absence and include your DGS and advisor in the e- Copy mail. You can take a leave of absence for a maximum of two consecutive semesters (autumn, spring). If you need to be away for a longer period, you will need to reapply to the program and go through the full application process upon your return.
You have 6 years to complete your study and thesis! This time starts from the date of your first graduate course (even if that course has been incorporated into the program). They can formally apply for a one-year extension if needed, but must demonstrate progress toward completion.
Before beginning your dissertation work, you will work with your supervisor to arrange a meeting with your committee to discuss your plans for your dissertation. Following committee approval during this meeting, you will work with your advisor to obtain IRB approval and begin work on your thesis.
Master’s In Higher Education Administration
When you start your dissertation, you must enroll in SEM 748 to continue as a student. You select the section of SEM 748 where your advisor is the instructor. You enroll in SEM 748 every fall and spring semester until you defend your thesis. If you defend your thesis in the summer semester, you must also register for SEM 748 in this summer semester.
Applications are accepted throughout the academic year. Domestic applications must be submitted AT LEAST one month before the start of the semester for which you wish to enroll to ensure the decision on acceptance/rejection and timing of enrollment. International applications must be submitted by April 15 (fall start) and September 15 (spring start).
The writing test and on-site interview can be carried out in practice in cases where applicants do not live within driving distance of the UK.
Graduate Assistantship opportunities are available for our students. In April we will start examining applications for teaching assistantships for funding in the fall semester. However, applications are accepted throughout the year. Availability and renewal is dependent on classroom teaching and research needs, and priority is given to students enrolled in our programs.
