This checklist will help you address some of the most common or overlooked areas that we see during our inspections. This is an abridged version perfect for use each year to maintain your OSHA compliance.

Osha Training Requirements For Dental Offices
In most medical and dental facilities that we visit for the first time, we encounter deficiencies in documentation, outdated OSHA guidelines, and violations of the Hazard Communication Standard. This became even clearer after harmonization with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).
Infection Control? There’s An App For That
Documentation, or lack thereof, is one of the biggest mistakes we see in medical and dental offices. Each new employee must be trained within 10 days of hiring. This training does not need to be as detailed as the annual training, but it should include the OSHA manual, the SDS manual, the eyewash station, and the reporting point for various items such as the final medical waste container. If you have special equipment, e.g. B. a laser, explain how and with what you can control it. In the case of lasers, these are usually technical controls such as safety goggles and/or protective devices or evacuation systems.
Clinical staff and all staff at risk of exposure should be offered the hepatitis B vaccine line upon recruitment. If they are unvaccinated and intend to be unvaccinated, start the vaccination series and document the original vaccination date. Get the documents if you have them.
You can provide a copy of your vaccination card or, most simply, sign a hepatitis B vaccination acceptance/compulsory form.
Have them check and sign the box that says, “I am signing this waiver because I was vaccinated prior to starting work at this facility and do not have a copy of the immunization record for my medical record.”
What Is Osha Training And What Courses Do I Need?
Safety pins and other medical devices should be evaluated annually. It’s not optional or dependent on how many needlestick injuries you’ve had in the past year. OSHA changed the Bloodborne Pathogen Standard years ago, and you need to evaluate those devices and implement them as appropriate. If you do not use these devices, use the Safer Sharps Assessment Form to document your assessment. This is important and should be done every year.
Hazard communication is an important part of your responsibility. It was the second most cited standard for fiscal year 2020. Healthcare and dental facilities often have multiple products that require labeling. Examples are disinfectants, alcohol dispensers, cold sterilization, ultrasonic solutions and laboratory chemicals. If you take the product out of its original packaging, make sure it is marked as such. According to the GHS, these secondary containers must contain the product identity, pictograms, signal words, hazard warnings, precautionary measures and manufacturer information. Labels should be checked regularly for legibility and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) should be required for all new products. Your master list should be updated to reflect changes in inventory. The disposal of medical waste should also be evaluated at least once a year. Cutlery bins and red bags should be placed at the ‘point of origin’ or in the immediate vicinity of the waste generation. If you have wall-mounted cutting tool racks, make sure they are securely mounted and at a height that all workers can reach. Shipping receipts should be kept for 3 years and your contract with your carrier evaluated. Often we come across properties with auto-renewal contracts that cost a lot.
