Dogs are allowed on OBX beaches, however, each city has different pet policies. Some beaches restrict the times that dogs can be on the beach. Dogs are allowed at Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla, and 4×4 beaches. Rules vary greatly from city to city. Outer Banks Oceanfront Rentals
Nags Head is one of the largest towns on the Outer Banks, with a population that includes locals and visitors. While other cities on the Outer Banks have stricter laws, Nags Head’s dog laws are relatively relaxed.
Leashed dogs are allowed on the beaches at all times. There are no leash length requirements, but dog owners must clean up after their animals at all times and place waste in the correct litter box.
In addition to the beach, Nags Head has several multi-use trails and a dog park. Nags Head Dog Park is located at 227 West Satterfield Landing Road, and parking is available. There are separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, with water (except in the winter months) and pet waste bags. Nags Head Dog Park is free and open to the public.
Kill Devil Hills is considered the pinnacle of the Outer Banks. Dogs are allowed on the beach, however, there are time restrictions. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, dogs are not allowed at all. At all other times, dogs on a leash and under the control of their owners are allowed on the beach.
Pet Friendly Vrbos In The Outer Banks For A Vacation With Your Dog
Mary’s Paws Park is a fun place for dogs to play in Kill Devil Hills. The dog park is located in Aviation Park, next to the Wright Brothers Memorial.
If you’re heading north, Kitty Hawk is the first Outer Banks town you’ll encounter as you cross the Wright Memorial Bridge. Dogs are allowed on Kitty Hawk Beach, but the rules differ depending on the time of year you visit.
From the Friday before Memorial Day until after Labor Day, dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Year-round, a 12-foot retractable leash is required. Well behaved dogs are allowed on the beach as long as they do not disturb other people or dogs. A dog owner must stay within 30 feet of an unleashed dog, and dog owners must always have a leash on them.
Another part of Kitty Hawk’s charm is its village, on the side of town, where horses and farm animals are allowed to the residents. Kitty Hawk residents can be seen on horseback, riding in town or on the beach, from 30 minutes before sunrise until 10:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 30 minutes after sunrise. 15, or anywhere else. time of year, from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. The duck is the jewel of the city, with beautiful water features in the sea and the sound. It has been named one of the most dog-friendly beaches in NC, and is arguably the friendliest of all the towns on the Outer Banks.
Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, they can play on the beach without a leash, but must be under the control of their owners at all times. Dog waste must be cleaned up and placed in the trash.
Classic 1935 Oceanfront Beach Cottage
Along with the beach, Duck City is dog friendly. Walk your dog on the Duck’s Soundside Boardwalk, which runs for a mile along the Currituck Sound in Duck Village and has wide trails and many access points. Most of the restaurants on the Duck Boardwalk have outdoor seating, and many will let your furry friends join you for a meal.
On the east side of Route 12, Duck Village, has several pet parks that offer great outdoor space. Dogs must be on a leash in Duck Village, including Duck Town Park and the boardwalk.
At the Waterfront Shoppes at the north end of the Duck Boardwalk, be sure to stop by the Outer Barks. A “Yappy Hour” is offered every Tuesday afternoon at Bluepoint Restaurant’s Back Bar. Dogs can enjoy dog daiquiris, organic dog treats (baked daily in store) and paw print paint.
Corolla is an OBX beach town that has it all – beautiful beaches, great restaurants, unique shopping, lots of activities and interesting history. Corolla beaches are dog friendly year-round, but leashes are required. There is no leash length requirement.
