Yes and no. Most universities in Germany do not charge tuition fees, but charge an administrative fee each semester. This application fee costs around 200-400 euros per semester and depends on the university and the program. They help cover small expenses such as student bus tickets, student canteens and other administrative costs.
Tuition Free Universities In Germany Taught In English 🏛️
In the eyes of the world, I’d say hundreds of dollars per year for a bachelor’s degree is free! For more information about the cost of studying in Germany, see my list.
I’m a Masters student so I can’t speak from personal experience, but from my research it seems the answer is no. Although I have found some articles mentioning some Bachelor programs in Germany that are taught in English, it seems that most require evidence of a high level of German proficiency.
But if you are a high school graduate looking to get a master’s degree in Germany, here are some resources you should know:
First, let’s go over the entry requirements for most master’s programs at German universities. Unfortunately, not everyone can get into this program, and you must have a bachelor’s degree related to the field you want to study.

If you find a Masters program in Germany that suits your style, the basic requirements for an English program may be:
The exact entry requirements will depend entirely on the university you are applying to and the program. If you come from a country with a completely different education system than Germany, you may need to provide additional documents or take preparatory courses.
When it comes time to apply, you will need to get notarized or postulated copies of your original documents, and you may need to have them legally translated into German. Universities may ask to see you first when you arrive in the country – again, it depends.
For my application to the University of Trier, they accepted certified copies of my documents without a German translation, did not ask for a motivation letter, and did not need to see a certified copy upon arrival. But there’s nothing wrong with preparing for those feelings.
Study Abroad In Germany As An International Student
Education in Germany is not expensive, but there are costs to be aware of when applying for a Master’s degree. These numbers are what I paid for my experience at the University of Trier and may vary slightly – but I hope they give you a general idea.
The biggest cost associated with studying abroad in Germany is a restricted account. All visiting students must have 11,208 Euros for the academic year in a special bank account. The money is yours, but it is in an account that only allows 934 Euros to be allocated every month to cover the cost of living. The German government wants to ensure that students arrive in the country with enough money to support themselves during their stay.
It is difficult to earn $12,500+ all at once, but there are exceptions and scholarships available. My account is registered with Expatrio, but other popular accounts are Deutsche Bank and Coracle (or Fintiba if you’re not American).
