DOVER, Delaware (November 18, 2020) – A new relationship between the Delaware Department of Small Business (DSB) and the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce (DEBCC) will help more small businesses apply for grant assistance in DE.

The two organizations have formed a partnership that will see the chamber help small businesses apply for DE Assistance Grants, a major economic relief program administered by the Department of Small Business.

“We are excited to announce this partnership,” said Ayana Khan, President and CEO of DEBCC. Our goal is to increase the number of minority-owned businesses that apply for and are approved for DE grant assistance. It will further the Chamber’s mission to serve the needs of minority-owned businesses throughout Delaware and provide economic opportunity and support to business owners and the communities they serve.

As of November 12, 1,904 applicants have accepted and/or been approved for more than $61 million in grants, and $31.2 million in applications are under review.

Round Two Of Small Business Grants Available Starting July 19th

The average grant award is just over $20,000. The average annual gross income of the typical recipient in 2019 was less than $500,000.

“DE assistance grants are an important source of financial assistance for small business owners in Delaware,” said Department of Small Business Director Damian DeStefano. “The division’s partnership with the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce ensures that small businesses, particularly minority-owned enterprises and small businesses, such as micro-enterprises, are particularly hard hit by Covid-19. Aid funds where possible.”

DE Grants in Aid are a joint effort between the State of Delaware and New Castle County. Under the provisions of the federal CARES Act, states and counties must use existing funds until December 31, 2020, when the program money comes in.

Applications for the current round of grants are due by December 4, allowing time for all applications to be reviewed and funds allocated before the end of the year.
