Schools Offering Social Work Degree – The IU School of Social Work is leading telebehavioral health by establishing the first national office for e-social work education and practice

In the changing online landscape of telehealth, the IU School of Social Work is establishing the first Office of e-Social Work Education and Practice. Officially established in August 2020, the Office of e-Social Work Education and Practice is dedicated to two main focus areas: social work distance learning and technology-mediated social work practice.

Schools Offering Social Work Degree

The new office will expand on the team members’ significant experience in the design, development and delivery of online courses, which they previously gained through working with MSV Direct. The MSV Direct Program is a fully online program established in 2012. MSV Direct is currently the fourth largest online program at Indiana University. MSV Direct courses are an example of effective distance learning, and IU Expand has one of its course modules in the IU Online Course Test Drive program. The new office will also develop and design the School of Continuing Education (CE) curriculum for delivery through IU Extension. As of August 28, 2020, the GV program had over 4,000 participants.

Led by Dr. David Wilkerson, MSV, Director, and Samantha Wolfe-Taylor, MSV, LCSV, Associate Director, the office will continue to have team members working for MSV Direct, including:

Dr. Wilkerson is an associate professor and research associate at the Regenstriffe Institute. He led the development of the school’s Graduate Certificate in e-Social Work Practice in partnership with the IUPUI School of Informatics and Computing. Her research interest focuses on the use of technology to improve social work education and practice in response to social work’s larger challenge to use technology for social good.

Samantha Wolfe-Taylor is a clinical assistant professor with a Ph.D. candidate from the IU School of Social Work, and certified clinical tele-mental health. She is the creator of the school e-simulation and manages the e-Social Work Practice Graduate Certificate program. His research interests focus on investigating the development and implementation of distance education technology innovations in online programs and their impact on student learning and preparation for practice.
