The course offers each student a placement within a forensic, clinical or research setting. I was offered a placement at a medium security women’s hospital in West London, which I really enjoyed. I was able to complete risk assessments, set up and lead an art therapy group, and work with a CBT/DBT group.

During the course we also received lectures from experts in the field of forensic psychology, which exposed us to possible career paths and the opportunity to meet practitioners from different services.

After completing the course, I worked as a psychiatric assistant in a residential school for children with disabilities and now I work as a senior psychiatric assistant in the NHS working with older people in the community. I know I would not be in my current position without this course. In particular, the placement aspect gave me ‘hands-on’ experience of assessment and intervention, which is very difficult to obtain as a student.
