In Gwinnett Tech’s medical diagnostic ultrasound program, students learn to use special equipment that directs high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic images of fetal organs, tissues, blood flow, and anatomy for interpretation by physicians, as a tool to aid in the diagnosis. and treatment of pathological conditions. Students learn about different types of ultrasound through didactic instruction, patient simulations, laboratory, and clinical experiences. Courses include sonographic physics, sonographic identification of normal and abnormal anatomy, physiology, pathology and pathophysiology of the abdomen, pelvis and small section of adult, pediatric and fetal patients, courses on clinical applications, interventional sonography, vascular sonography, diary and case reviews of Comprehensive study and review record. Graduates of Gwinnett Tech’s diagnostic medical ultrasound program work in hospitals, imaging centers, physicians’ offices, and emergency care centers.

The DMS program equips students with the necessary skills to operate ultrasound equipment and obtain high-quality diagnostic images through several enhancements. This program aims to prepare students to be able to apply innovative techniques, practice excellent patient care skills, be able to respond quickly to adverse or atypical situations and be committed to keep pace with technological changes in the field of ultrasound.
The DMS program offers Abdominal Extension and OB/GYN concentrations. Students will study both concentrations in this 22-month (5-semester) continuous study program that includes on-campus teaching and laboratory sessions and off-campus clinical rotations. The DMS program is a full-time commitment that requires a lot of additional study time outside of the classroom. Classes are scheduled for the afternoon with new cohorts starting each fall.
