Send Marketing Cloud Email From Salesforce – We often have a Salesforce Marketing Cloud used in conjunction with Salesforce CRM (Sales / Service Cloud) and the marketing team has to send SFMC emails to Leads / Contacts living in the CRM system. The Marketing Cloud Connect package manages to integrate the Sales / Service Cloud with the Marketing Cloud – but do you know how many different options there are for sending SFMC emails to CRM Lead / Contact?
I have listed 8 different options below that you can consider – note that there may be many other ways you can design and implement solutions for this problem, but I want you to at least be familiar with these 8. You should check out the many options but try to choose the simplest option that suits your needs.
Send Marketing Cloud Email From Salesforce
Option 1-6 below requires the Marketing Cloud Connect package to be installed on the Sales / Service cloud instance and integrated with the SFMC instance. Option 7-8 uses software options and does not rely on the Marketing Cloud Connect package.
Can I Use Content Builder Emails In Triggered Sends From Marketing Cloud Connect?
Option 1 – Email SFMC to CRM Campaign / Report SF CRM using Marketing Cloud Connect in SF CRM
If your primary need is to enable SF CRM users (for sales team members) to send emails without logging into the Marketing Cloud but using SFMC-specific email approved by your marketing team, you can use the pre-installed Marketing Cloud software. With Marketing Cloud Connect package on Sales / Service Cloud instance.
Under Launcher – you should see the “Marketing Cloud” tab – clicking on it will launch the VF Page that links to the Marketing Cloud. Please note that sometimes you may be prompted to reconnect to the Marketing Cloud and sign in to establish a connection.
By default you will get an email screen as shown below – SF CRM users can select the required SFMC Email and then select the report / campaign from the target SF CRM example. Users can also confirm reports / campaigns for rejections. Make sure you have a pre-generated report / campaign with the leader or contact as well as the appropriate SFMC email available to SF CRM users for this use case.
Salesforce Marketing Cloud: Different Ways To Send Emails From Marketing Cloud
The above option is great if you want to send SFMC Email to multiple leaders / contacts – but you also have the option of sending a single email to a leader or contact from, for example, SF CRM. For this you need to go to Setup> Object Manager – and then for Lead and Contact Page Layouts you need to enable Send Marketing Cloud Email Email custom link. You should see this custom link on the contact / lead details page as shown below
Clicking on this personal link will open a similar emailing interface that we saw before – but now instead of a report / campaign target is the specific leader / contact you already have – click on the personal link. The rest of the process is the same as before.
Sometimes you may come across a scenario where you want to open an SFMC email to a leader or contact based on a creation or update. The Marketing Cloud app in the Sales / Service Cloud app that we saw in Option 1 also supports inbound delivery.
You will need to write an Apex Trigger (after inserting / after updating) for the Lead or Contact object in this case – and then use the Configuration screen shown below to set the conditions and properties for sending the email. This option is very useful if you want an automated mechanism to send emails to SFMC for SF CRM Leads / Contacts based on CRM activity.

Option 3 – Salesforce sends from SFMC to CRM Report / Campaign using Email Studio, Automation Studio and MC Connect
Contacts tab You have the option to create a Salesforce Send. The first part of the configuration is usually around the email and send properties as shown below – some are entered when you select an existing email.
To add a Salesforce report or campaign as a target (and remove it if necessary), click Edit Recipients and then select the appropriate option as shown below.

The popup will be displayed by downloading all accessible reports from the attached SF CRM example – select the report / campaign needed to add to the target or rejection section.
Once you have saved the Salesforce Send configuration under Interactions, you can select it at any time and send manually using the menu options as shown below.
If you need to use the Salesforce Send definition to send emails to reports / campaigns configured in the automation process, you can extend this solution further through the automation studio. In the new automation workflow, select Source Schedule and drag Salesforce Email Activity from the left action panel to Step 1.
Option 4 – Import SF CRM object / report and use in automation using Email Studio, Automation Studio and MC Connect

Some of you may be familiar with the option of using import file actions for reading data from files in FTP / Safehouse and then updating the data extension. However, there is an additional option to select Salesforce Objects and Reports as the file location, so you can import Salesforce Object or Report data from SF CRM into SFMC without going through FTP.
The interaction tab is shown below. For the Source section, select “Salesforce Objects and Reports” in the File Location drop-down list. Then select the Object or Report option and select the appropriate data import. You can specify additional options for import as well as email notifications to be notified of the completion of the import each time it is applied.
After you select a report or object, you will be asked to specify the fields to be imported into SFMC – a new data extension with the same name as the import import definition will be created with the field tags and data types as shown. Below. You have the option to customize before completing the import installation.
Once the interactive import has been successfully saved, you can now select it in the File Import action in Auto Studio. Automatically configure the workflow with the origin of the file import schedule and email activity as shown below.
Using The Wait Until Api Event Activity In Journey Builder
You will be able to verify the import details of the activity configuration – however, you will not be able to edit them from Automation Studio No. For any configuration updates, please use the interactive import saved in Email Studio.
Here’s what your automation workflow will look like when you select Import and Configure contacts Email activity.
You can access the data extension in either Email Studio or Contact Builder and you will be able to view the newly created data extension for this import contact.
Option 5 – Use DE & Segment synchronized in automation or travel using MC Connect and Automation Studio / Journey Builder

Data source. Configure the Lead or Contacts object to bring the corresponding record to the SFMC periodically – surveys can be conducted at a low level every 15 minutes. You can also set filter criteria on what records to bring from SF CRM to SFMC.
You should see all the synced data extensions as shown below in your Data Extensions tab in Contact Builder.
One of the limitations of synchronized DEs is that you can not use them directly in sending emails, especially on the go. The solution is to split the data from the synchronized DEs using the Filter / SQL Query action into the new sendable DE and then use the Send Email action in Automation Studio or as a source to access the tour.
This option is very useful when you do not need to send emails in real time and have specific allocations to apply to CRM data before pulling them into email communications.

One of the most powerful options in Journey Builder is to capture SF CRM Lead / Contact directly into the journey using Salesforce data sources. This option saves you from having CRM data in Synchronized DE and then performing splits to get records into Sendable DE for travel.
The SF CRM Lead / Contact is driven near real-time, depending on the input conditions and filters configured for the element source. This trip also creates a data extension associated with it that contains individual lead / contact records brought to the trip from SF
