Snhu Masters In Healthcare Administration – 2019 was an extraordinary year for Southern New Hampshire University. Throughout the year, we celebrate more than 21,000 graduates, make new friends and colleagues in Tucson, and support more than 40 organizations across New Hampshire. As the year draws to a close and the SNHU community continues to grow, I’d like to share some of the year’s highlights:
At SNHU, we have some of the most dedicated students imaginable. They are the everyday heroes who confirm our mission for me. It’s parents who care for children and work full time, police officers and squatters, college students who work long hours and still volunteer in our community, and refugees who are left behind by much of the world but still have hope. Hearing their stories of perseverance and tenacity is always inspiring, and I am still in awe of many of the people I spoke with early on. This year, one of our students walked across the stage after recovering from paralysis, another earned two degrees while battling brain cancer, and many more picked up their own victories along the way. Meet some of our 2019 graduates:

There was so much to celebrate in 2019 and we couldn’t have done any of it without our staff and teachers. We now have over 10,000 employees across the country who live SNHU’s mission in service to our students. They’re why we’ve been named a Great School to Work For twelve years in a row, the Most Innovative University in the North for the fifth year in a row, a top institution for adult learners, and now one of the best places to work for women. I am honored to have such a great team and community by my side.

In 2019, we also expanded the SNHU family to Arizona. More than 100 employees have recently joined our team and will work from our new Tucson office. They will help serve students in western time zones and we are excited to welcome them to the growing SNHU community.
As you may know, we held two career fairs in the Tucson area to find new talent. Our team had the opportunity to speak with several candidates, many with inspiring stories. One person had been in a serious motorcycle accident a few days before joining the career. He said he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to interview SNHU. We also heard from two military personnel who celebrated Veterans Day together and learned through conversation that they would soon be colleagues.
Now, with our new “SNHUcson” team on hand, we plan to officially mark the opening of our new location with a ribbon cutting and team event in February. Can’t wait to meet the whole team!
At SNHU, our students truly learn as much outside as they do inside the classroom. To celebrate their success, I’d like to share some of this year’s student projects with all of you.

At SNHU, we understand the importance of giving back and always strive to be a good neighbor. In 2019, we supported more than 40 local organizations across New Hampshire, including Families in Transition, Manchester Boys & Girls Club and The Palace Theatre. We also opened our first mini arena in the Granite State with our Major League Soccer friends and have plans to open a second arena west of Manchester. In January, the Boston Celtics also helped us open a new technology lab for students at Fairgrounds Elementary in Nashua.
To their credit, our students often lead our community service activities. On campus this academic year, nearly 1,000 students participated in service projects, including alternative breaks, service learning and volunteering. Through the Chandler Center, more than 5,500 hours were served at 42 local nonprofits. We couldn’t be more proud of our students and the impact they’ve had on the community.
We also had another record year for our annual Global Days of Service initiative. In 2019, approximately 1,600 volunteers led 180 projects in 44 states and seven countries. In total, SNHU community members logged 7,800 service hours during the entire month of April.
Last summer, we hosted our fourth annual Back of the Net event to raise money and honor the men and women who selflessly serve our nation. Through this year’s initiative, SNHU donated $124,000 to the USO and also awarded six full scholarships to military-affiliated MLS fans. I encourage you to read more about beneficiaries and initiatives.

We also joined Operation Homefront to honor military spouses across the country. During each of our four welcome vacations, we surprise our spouses with a full scholarship to study online with SNHU. Heather Jaquay received her scholarship in January and decided to major in health administration. Read her story, here.
I also wanted to share one of my favorite Inception stories. We had a military couple – Jessica and Parker Bryant – who crossed the finish line together in May. Despite international expansion and five young children at home, they managed to complete their online programs together. They hope to show their children that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
Our student-athletes are a talented bunch, and they impress me every year (and fill my circle). This year many of our teams made it to the NE10 postseason and I couldn’t be more proud. Here are some of Penmen’s top highlights in 2019:
In an age when high-quality higher education is increasingly out of reach for many, we work hard to put education in the hands of students around the world. Over the past year, we’ve launched several new partnerships to increase access to education, and we’ve also made significant progress on ongoing initiatives. Here are some highlights:

As many of you know, we opened the SNHU Center for New Americans at the YWCA NH in 2017. Since opening, the SNHU team has provided Manchester youth with a safe place to learn, play and grow after school and during the summer months . The center regularly serves over 90 elementary school students each week.
In 2019, the SNHU Center for New Americans expanded its services in partnership with the YWCA to open the WELL (Wellness, Education and Learning for Life). The COURT, which opened on the YWCA’s second floor in September, now hosts ESOL, Hi-SET test preparation, and other academic and enrichment programming, as well as youth and recreational activities on the lower level. The center also received a $30,000 grant over two years from Granite United Way to participate in its Youth Enrichment Program, which connects high school service agencies with additional agencies across the city.
I also want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank Arthur Sullivan, Co-Owner of Brady Sullivan Properties and Trustee of SNHU, for his generous shoe donation this fall. Thanks to him, 160 local children – 80 from the SNHU Center for New Americans – were able to go shopping where they got new shoes.
What I love most about the SNHU community is how we always come together; whether it’s celebrating homecoming, supporting our community during the government shutdown, or finding ways to better serve our students. Our society and culture are truly unlike any other in a superior edition. Thank you to everyone who made 2019 another great year at SNHU!
