Our 2.5-year Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree is committed to fostering a diverse student body and a strong network of student and clinical faculty support.
The PT program trains competent and ethical physical therapists to fulfill the multifaceted role of clinician, patient manager, teacher, researcher, administrator, consultant, and advocate. In addition to compassion, character, and professionalism, there are some basic skills needed to complete a PT program. Upon successful completion of the PT program, graduates are eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) in any state.

The University of Colorado policy requires a full COVID vaccination for students, faculty, and staff. This requirement must be met at the start of the PT program, at least 4 weeks prior to Orientation. . Waiver due to a medical condition requires campus-wide approval and must go through a rigorous review process.

On November 3, 2020, the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) confirmed its accreditation status by meeting all evaluation criteria. The accreditation status will remain in effect for a full 10 years until 2031, at which time the accreditation status will undergo a self-study and on-site review.
Iwu Launches Doctor Of Physical Therapy Program
The program received accreditation from the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association in 1947. The program transitioned from offering a certificate to offering a bachelor’s degree in 1952, and continued at that level until 1990, when he started his master of science, physical therapy degree. In 2003, CAPTE approved the Program to offer the Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) degree. The program has been continuously accredited since its inception.
CAPTE has a mechanism for reviewing formal complaints about physical therapy education programs that do not meet CAPTE’s evaluation criteria or that violate CAPTE’s expectations for academic integrity. High school students with an ACT (or equivalent SAT or CLT) score of 24 or higher may competitively apply for early conditional admission to the physical therapy program. High school seniors (or freshmen with less than 30 credit hours) should contact the PT department to request early conditional admission.

Physiotherapists often find business skills useful. With a Master of Business Administration, you’ll gain the business skills you need to succeed in healthcare management positions or in private practice. SBU has developed a special course plan for DPT students who wish to complete their MBA degree concurrently with their Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
Students who participate in the Missouri A+ program are automatically accepted into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at SSU. For automatic admission, students must earn a bachelor’s degree at SBU within two years of completing an associate’s degree under the parameters of the A+ program.
