Teachers College’s Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health Education (PHETE) program – Bachelor of Science in Exercise, Sport and Health Education (ESHE) – combines traditional classroom learning with hands-on, experiential learning to prepare future educators for careers in K.-12 physical and health education. By partnering with a variety of Southwest Virginia schools, PHETE students gain experience observing and teaching children and adolescents in kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as on-campus outreach programs. Complete completion of all PHETE requirements leads to a teaching license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Physical and Health Teacher Education (PHETE) program focuses on preparing post-secondary students for 12 teacher positions. Students obtain the necessary first aid, CPR, and AED certifications, and many more supplement their job applications by pairing their degree with a minor in a related academic discipline. Additionally, they can seek optional driver training approvals to increase their marketing. Students must complete the course requirements and major requirements for the Bachelor of Science.
