The University of Boulder’s Graduate Master of Environment Program (MENV) is an innovative, interdisciplinary master’s degree that provides students with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to address the complex environmental challenges of the 21st century. This immersive, cohort-based two-year program turns students into leaders in a wide range of careers in conservation, consulting, energy, natural resources, planning, design, sustainability and more. While in the program, students must choose their studies in one of five specializations: Environmental and Natural Resources Policy, Renewable and Sustainable Energy, Sustainability in the Foreign Industry, Sustainable Food Systems, or Urban Resilience and Sustainability.

The MENV program brings together thought leaders from inside and outside the academy to provide our curriculum with real-world applications.
MENV students complete a nineteen-month Capstone Project in which they work directly with organizations in a variety of industries in the public, private and non-profit sectors.
Workshops, field trips, and seminars are offered throughout the program to supplement the school curriculum and provide students with practical and applied training.

Confirmation deposits are only refunded to students upon graduation or official withdrawal from CU Boulder within the established times and procedures; the deposit is non-refundable if you choose not to write/register.
If you receive an offer of admission and confirm your intention to apply, you will be asked to submit your official Graduate Admissions transcript. Official transcripts must match the transcripts that were sent with your application. Public electronic transcripts are accepted as long as they are sent directly from the issuing institution. Electronic transcripts must be sent to gradprocessing@ except for Master of Education Leadership students who must send them to transcripta@. Official transcripts are NOT mailed copies of transcripts in sealed envelopes addressed to applicants. Please do not submit until the final official transcript is available, including all grades and grades with graduation date.
If you don’t have it yet, activate your IdentiKey. It is important that you set and remember your IdentiKey password. Your key is to apply for housing, enroll in the New Student and Family program, and enroll in classes. A US Social Security Number is required to activate an IdentiKey. If you don’t have one, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will email you a four-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) to use instead. If you do not receive your PIN within five business days to confirm your intention to enroll, please contact OIT at help@ to request your PIN. Your IdentiKey also allows you to log into the Buff Portal, which is your secure point to CU Boulder online services and information you need as a student. Typically, it takes three to five business days for the IdentiKey activation to complete before you can access the housing application.
Email is the official medium for communication on campus: it is used by the faculty and by departments to convey important information to you. In the future, all emails will be sent to your account. You must activate IdentiKey before you can create your account.
Things To Do At Cu Boulder
Registration for incoming students begins in late April (for fall admissions) or late November (for spring admissions). If you confirmed your intention to sign up after April or November, you must allow 2-3 days before your confirmation deposit is fully processed, after which your access to the Buff Portal will be activated.
Once you have obtained your IdentiKey and password, and completed the information in which to register for classes, go to the Buff Portal class registration guide card (you will be prompted to open it). Select the semester from the “Select Term” dropdown menu at the top of the page to see your preferred start time (Month Time). Once you have decided on your registration date and time, you can search for classes.
All students are required to have health insurance to attend CU Boulder. Students can choose coverage through an individual health plan, through a family or employer or the CU Gold Student Health Plan (NAVIS). Students must meet this requirement during their first semester at CU Boulder and at the beginning of each academic year. Those taking six (6) or more undergraduate credit hours or one (1) or more graduate credit hours must complete the health insurance requirements. Learn about the health student.

At this time, CU Boulder students’ health insurance does not cover spouses and clients. Wardenburg Health Services refers all students seeking spouse and dependent insurance coverage to the Health Exchange. From there, you can search for plans and find health insurance options.
Your Buff OneCard is your student ID card and your key to many different services and events, including restaurants, printing and banking. Plan ahead and submit an application and a valid photo online, and when you get to campus, you can quickly pick up your card and move on, but wait in line. Important: If you are an F-1 or J-1 student, please note the program start date. All F-1/J-1 students must arrive before the program start date reflected on their I-20/DS-2019. Note: You can enter the US up to 30 days before this date.

The Buff Portal will provide you with a course schedule, classroom location, financial aid status, and your insurance. While your tuition fee will be paid around the time your courses start, remember that your first payment from a research or teaching appointment is usually available up to a month after the semester.
