What Apps Do Graphic Designers Use

What Apps Do Graphic Designers Use – EXCLUSIVELY… Designers and artists will be especially wowed this holiday season with the Apple iPad Pro, a stunning creative tool optimized for sketching, photo retouching, design and digital painting with a 12.9-inch Retina display and compatible Apple Pencil. Our own time with the iPad Pro restored a contemplative relationship to sketching in bed, a credit to the intuitive and comfortable design of the Apple Pencil. The iPad Pro is also the best Netflix in bed viewing device, but here are some of the best apps optimized for the iPad Pro that you’ll want to know as a new iPad giver or recipient:

If there’s one app we’d personally recommend for a designer or artist to load on the iPad Pro out of the box, it’s Process. Optimized for iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, the palette and tools options welcome deep and creative experiments. Like chess, it’s easy to get started, but a long-term investment to master is as close as any tablet can get to working with physical media in a studio environment, with every tool and medium manipulating as responsively and satisfyingly as their real-world counterparts. And with the app’s support for 4k canvases on the iPad Pro and an optimized 64-bit painting engine, it’s an app that’s likely to convince artists to consider switching from the Wacom Cintiq to the iPad Pro.

What Apps Do Graphic Designers Use

Developer FiftyThree describes their iPad Pro optimized app as designed to capture and connect notes, photos and sketches. In fact, the app is reminiscent of Moleskine Notebook in its usability and schmomorphic sketchbook interface. It’s perfect for quickly doodling an idea, and the ability to organize notes and images in an idea/inspiration board layout helps designers working in the concept or storyboarding stages.

What Does A Graphic Designer Do? And How Do I Become One?

If you’re a designer or illustrator already invested in Adobe Creative Cloud workflow, this vector-based free-hand drawing app is easy to install on iPad Pro for quick sketches, then move to the desktop application for polished details. With stylus and Apple Pencil support, layers, a cool multi-gesture digital ruler tool for drawing basic shapes, with an exploration feature, it’s easy to work with iPad Pro outside of a studio environment, then finish an illustration in Photoshop. | CC, or Illustrator CC, finally pushes the final product to Adobe’s Behance portfolio network, which is bucketed into the app.

I still remember keeping a printed and bound copy of Fontshop’s fontbook for reference when I was directing magazines and packaging. Now instead of keeping a huge book, the entire collection of 145 types of foundries is listed by name, designer and style. Unbelievable

Indio was recently acquired by 3D and engineering software giant Autodesk, revamping the small company’s previous iDraw app into a full-featured vector-based app. In this updated iteration, the app is more suitable for designers looking for technical illustration and logo design creation tools. Layers, texture tools, transparency adjustments, import and export from SVG, PDF and Photoshop PSD documents make it easy to add graphics to any vector design workflow.

Astronomy is not a graphics app, but a powerful utility that turns the iPad Pro (or iPad Air 2) into an OS X computing extension. Designed to work via Wi-Fi or USB, iPad Pro accurately mirrors a main computer display with full-featured input. So instead of switching to a less-featured iOS version of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Corel Painter, Manga Studio or Pixelmeter, AstroPad allows users to work directly with desktop applications using the iPad Pro. Photo editing and drawing performance is rated at up to 60fps, with a response time of less than 12m, addressing common complaints of lag. With compatibility across a range of stylus brands, you may end up ditching the mouse

Pixelmeter is a very capable photo editing desktop application; In fact, it’s the OS X application I’ve been looking for when looking for an Adobe Photoshop alternative, and as an iOS application designed for quick and easy photo editing and retouching for iPad Pro users, it’s equally recommended. Although used for digital painting, Pixelmatter is truly excellent for photographic retouching projects, handling files up to 50 megapixels with remarkable responsiveness. Considered for those who regularly send comps or need to retouch a photo before uploading to Instagram, this app goes beyond filters by offering clone, distort, layers, soft, color correction tools. Another plus: The app’s UI is exceptionally clean and uncluttered, making good use of Retina display screen real estate by hiding menus and palettes until called upon. Pixelmatter

Taysui Sketches might be the most fun-looking drawing app for the iPad Pro, displaying a small selection of artist tools with a cute, almost cartoonish style. The digital equivalents of pencil, rot, watercolor brush, felt pen, eraser, airbrush, oil pastel, acrylic brush and pen brush are displayed as a skumorphic tool palette on the left side of the screen (these are hidden in distraction-free work mode) and optimized for horizontal orientation. Various gesture controls integrated into the Done app allow access to features with fingers and thumb to undo, browse, zoom and move. All in all, Taisui Sketch is a very efficient alternative to paper for sketching artists looking for a minimal user interface.

A few weeks ago I took a quick look at uMake’s 3D design capabilities using the advanced hardware of the iPad Pro and was impressed by how quick and easy it was to capture 3D forms from 2D doodles. In professional hands, uMake allows artists to work on a typically 2D canvas, which naturally manipulates lines in 3D space. In practice, 3D sketching and modeling becomes a natural experience accessed through the Apple Pencil or other stylus, as flat lines can be stretched, squeezed, duplicated and resized to form 3D shapes. An important note is that this app requires a monthly or yearly subscription to unlock the full range of features. That said, the free version is enough to determine whether the benefits of 3D modeling on the iPad Pro are worth the extra investment.
