We recognize the land that we are located in Pacific University College of Health Professions. What we call Washington County is on the traditional lands of the Atfalati, Tualatin Kalapuya, Clatskanie, Chinook and other tribes who made their homes here and were captured and forcibly removed by the United States Government. Today, many Indians continue to make sacrifices while making important contributions to our society. Living and present communities actively and strongly contribute to the entire land we call Washington County. In Oregon, the federal government abolished tribal sovereignty and reservations for more than 60 tribes in 1953. Discriminatory housing policies in the 20th century, including redlining and exclusionary zoning, led to the displacement of people of color. This recognition established a commitment to break the ongoing legacy of settler colonialism.
