Social media has become a part of everyday life for many small business owners. Being on Twitter is almost as common as having a phone on your desk twenty years ago. But while it has become the norm, social media is still a fuzzy world. There are so many channels, and so much noise, and so many people are still not sure they are doing it right.
How Many People Use Social Media In 2022? (65+ Statistics)
With that in mind, we wanted to look a little deeper into how small businesses are using social media today. Which channels are doing well? What are the challenges and rewards of devoting time and energy to the task?
We asked questions on our own social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+) and our email subscribers. During two days we received answers from 63 people, 63% women and 37% men. The top three sectors our respondents work in are media and creative, professional services and technology, and we also had responses from retailers, travel industry experts and people who run craft businesses. 8% of respondents were between 18 and 29 years old, 43% of respondents were between 30 and 44 years old, another 43% were between 45 and 59 years old and 6% were 60+.
Twitter was the undoubted champion in this category (46.3%), with Facebook coming in second place (31.75%) and LinkedIn in third place. (15.87%). The biggest loser was Google+, which received no votes. Interesting, don’t you think?
